WCFJ (92.1 MHz) is a Christian FM radio station affiliated with His Radio and licensed to Irmo, South Carolina and serves the Columbia, South Carolina market. The Hometown Columbia outlet is licensed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to broadcast with an effective radiated power (ERP) of 15 kW. Its studios and transmitter are located in Columbia separately.

Pine Grove Rosenwald School, also known as Pine Grove Colored School, is a historic Rosenwald school building located at St. Andrews, Richland County, South Carolina. It was built in 1923, and is a one-story, rectangular gable-front frame building. Its layout is a variant of the two-room schoolhouse and features large banks of tall narrow windows.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

The Broad River Correctional Institution (BRCI) is a South Carolina Department of Corrections state prison for men located in Columbia, South Carolina. South Carolina's execution chamber is located in Broad River. The adjacent Kirkland Correctional Institution lies just to its south side. The prison opened in 1988. In January 1990, death row inmates were moved from the Central Correctional Institution to Broad River. In 1990, executions began at BRCI. On April 12, 1997, death row inmates were moved to the Lieber Correctional Institution. In September 2017, death row inmates were moved to Kirkland Correctional Institution. On July 11, 2019, death row inmates were moved from Kirkland Correctional Institution to the housing unit that was originally built for them at Broad River.

On the afternoon of April 16, 2022, a mass shooting occurred at the Columbiana Centre shopping mall in Columbia, South Carolina. Ten people were reported to have been struck by gunfire. Two others were reported to have been injured in the evacuation of the building. No fatalities have been reported. Three people with firearms were reported to have been detained, although only one was said to have fired their gun. A black male suspect was arrested. According to Orlando, Florida's WFTV, injuries were later reported to be increased to 14.

Columbiana Centre is a one-story indoor shopping mall located off Interstate 26/U.S. Route 76 on Harbison Boulevard in Columbia, South Carolina that opened in 1990. Most of the mall's territory is located in Lexington County, although portions of the mall extend into Richland County. The regional mall has 788,103 square feet (73,217.2 m2) of retail space. Its anchors include two Belk stores, Dillard's, and JCPenney. The Men's Belk opened in early 2015 in the former Sears which closed in 2014.

Kirkland Correctional Institution is a state prison for men located in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina, United States, owned and operated by the South Carolina Department of Corrections.Kirkland has a special role in South Carolina's prison system as the point of intake and assessment for all male state prisoners, the site of the state's Maximum Security Unit, and a health care facility. The prison was first opened in 1975, and houses a maximum of 1707 inmates, plus another 50 in the Max unit and 24 in the infirmary. In September 2017, death row inmates were moved to Kirkland Correctional Institution. It is the prison in which Alex Murdaugh is serving his life sentence. The state's Broad River Correctional Institution is adjacent to the north.

Camille Griffin Graham Correctional Institution is a South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) state prison for women in Columbia, South Carolina. The Women's Reception and Evaluation Center, which processes all females entering SCDC, is in the prison.The prison opened in 1973, as "Women's Correctional Institution". It was renamed in 2002 in honor of the first female warden of a maximum-security male prison in South Carolina, Camille Griffin Graham. In October 2019, health care staff at the prison reported that women who reported mental health symptoms were punished with nutraloaf and were denied hygiene items. The warden, Marian Boulware, resigned in January 2020 after the reports. The prison houses the State of South Carolina death row for women.In January 2011, a young female prisoner with a history of mental illness succeeded in committing suicide. The death is under investigation. In February 2019, another prisoner killed herself. In 2012, an inmate went into labor and was not aided by staff. One of her twins was delivered into a toilet where he died. The state reached a settlement for over a million dollars seven years later.The prison is one of 40, and the only prison in South Carolina, participating in Girl Scouts of the USA Beyond Bars program, allowing Girl Scouts visitation/bonding with their incarcerated mothers.

WMFX has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 6,000 watts. Its transmitter is on Winterwood Road near Monticello Road.

Seven Oaks is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lexington County, South Carolina, United States, 8 miles (13 km) northwest of downtown Columbia, the state capital. The population of the CDP was 15,144 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Columbia Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Columbia High School a public high school in the St. Andrews area of Columbia, South Carolina, United States. Columbia High School was originally housed in the former Columbia Female Academy (established 1816) at 1323 Washington Street at the corner with Marion Street. This building was leased to the Richland County Commissioners of Schools in 1884. The school became Columbia's first public high school in 1895 as the Washington Street School. The original Columbia High School building was constructed in 1915 on that site. The current building was constructed in 1975.
