Embarcadero Center is a commercial complex of four office towers, two hotels, a shopping center with more than 125 stores, bars, and restaurants, and a fitness center on three levels located in San Francisco, California. There is an outdoor ice skating rink during winter months. Embarcadero Center sits on a 9.8-acre (4.0 ha) site largely bounded by Clay Street (to the north), Sacramento Street (to the south), Battery Street (to the west), and the Embarcadero (to the east), in the financial district of San Francisco.Developed by Trammell Crow, David Rockefeller and John Portman, construction began with Tower One in 1971, with the last off-complex extension, Embarcadero West, completed in 1989. The two extension buildings are west of Battery. Boston Properties sold the Embarcadero West building to Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA-CREF) in December 2005 for more than US$205 million.The 4.8 million square feet (445,900 m2) complex accommodates offices for 14,000 people along with mixed-use areas accommodating retail, dining, entertainment and cinema functions. The cinema’s operator closed its doors permanently in February 2022.

A major Bay Area transit hub, Embarcadero is also served by numerous bus routes of several other agencies which stop above the station and on surrounding streets.

Yerba Buena was the original name of the settlement that later became San Francisco. Located near the northeastern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, between the Presidio of San Francisco and the Mission San Francisco de Asís, it was originally intended as a trading post for ships visiting San Francisco Bay. The Apollo is a historic storeship that is buried at a location in downtown San Francisco, California, at the site of the Old Federal Reserve Bank. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. Parts of the ship have been uncovered, most recently in 1921 and 1925. Photographs from the 1921 uncovering exist. The 1925 excavation revealed coins from 1797, 1825, and 1840, a gold nugget, and assorted navigational pieces. One of numerous buried ships within San Francisco, it is an archeological site, listed at least partially for its potential to yield information in the future.The ship was acquired by Moses Yale Beach of the New York Sun in 1848 for the California Gold Rush, and was later converted into the "Apollo Saloon", serving alcohol, donoughts and coffee.

Yerba Buena Cove was a cove on San Francisco Bay where the Mexican pueblo of Yerba Buena was located. It lay between Clarks Point to the north (southeast of Telegraph Hill, near the corner of Broadway and Battery Streets) and Rincon Point to the south (near the corner of Harrison and Spear Streets). The beach of the cove was set back as far as what is now Montgomery Street between Clay and Washington Streets. Between the beginning of the California Gold Rush and 1860, the cove was filled in, and the downtown of the city of San Francisco built over it. A number of ships were sunk in the cove, including some that were intentionally scuttled to allow the owners to claim the land around the sunken ship. Wrecks known to remain buried include the Apollo, the Niantic, and the Rome, the latter of which was discovered in 1994 during construction of the Muni Metro Turnback Tunnel.
