Villers Abbey

Villers-la-Ville (French pronunciation: [vilɛʁs la vil] ; Walloon: L' Abeye) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the Belgian province of Walloon Brabant. On January 1, 2006, Villers-la-Ville had a total population of 9,572. The total area is 47.45 km2 which gives a population density of 202 inhabitants per km2. The municipality includes also the villages of Marbais, Mellery, Sart-Dames-Avelines and Tilly.

Tilly (Walloon: Tiyî) is a village of Wallonia and district of the municipality of Villers-la-Ville, located in the province of Walloon Brabant, Belgium. It had a population of 1,707 inhabitants on December 31, 2007. Johann Tserclaes, Count of Tilly (1559-1631), a field marshal who commanded the Catholic League's forces in the Thirty Years' War, was born here. Near the village lies a Gallo-Roman tumulus called the Tumulus of Tilly.

On 1 January 2006 Court-Saint-Étienne had a total population of 9,408. The total area is 26.64 km2 (10.29 sq mi) which gives a population density of 353/km2 (910/sq mi) inhabitants . The municipality includes the following districts: Wisterzée, Sart-Messire-Guillaume, La Roche, Mérivaux, Suzeril, Faux, Limauges, Beaurieux, Franquenies, Le Chenoy, and Tangissart.

The Battle of Quatre Bras was fought on 16 June 1815, as a preliminary engagement to the decisive Battle of Waterloo that occurred two days later. The battle took place near the strategic crossroads of Quatre Bras and was contested between elements of the Duke of Wellington's Anglo-allied army and the left wing of Napoleon Bonaparte's French Armée du Nord under Marshal Michel Ney. The battle was a tactical victory for Wellington (as he possessed the field at dusk), but because Ney prevented him going to the aid of Blucher's Prussians who were fighting a larger French army under the command of Napoleon Bonaparte at Ligny it was a strategic victory for the French.

Quatre Bras ([kat.ʁə bʁɑ], French for crossroads; literally "four arms") is a hamlet in the municipality of Genappe, Wallonia, Belgium. It lies on the crossroad of the Charleroi–Brussels road (currently named N5) and the Nivelles–Namur road south of Genappe. On June 16, 1815, near the crossroads of Quatre Bras, the Battle of Quatre Bras (part of the Waterloo Campaign) was fought between contingents of the Anglo-Allied army and the left wing of the French Army.
