Southside Academy

New Era Academy is a public secondary school serving grades 6 to 12, located in the Cherry Hill neighborhood of South Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It was operated as an "innovation high school" by Replications, Inc. for the Baltimore City Public School System. The school opened in 2003, serving students citywide.

The Hanover Street Bridge – officially, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge – is a bascule bridge crossing the middle branch of the Patapsco River along Hanover Street (Maryland Route 2) in Baltimore, Maryland. The bridge was built to replace the mile-long "Long Bridge" built by Richard Cromwell in 1856 to move products from his orchard in Anne Arundel County to downtown Baltimore.The Hanover Street Bridge connects the southern base of the industrialized South Baltimore to the neighborhood of Cherry Hill and Brooklyn. The bridge carries five lanes of traffic: two northbound, two southbound, and one reversible. It employs a lane control system and carries two sidewalks on either side. Designed by J. E. Greiner Company, the bridge was constructed in 1916 and is characterized as a Beaux Arts-style reinforced cantilever bridge. It is known for its beautiful arches as it spans the water. In the center of the bridge is a drawbridge span surrounded on four corners by classic style towers which lend it a distinctive appearance. The bridge is 2,290 feet (700 m) long. On May 30, 1993, Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke officially renamed the bridge the "Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge". In the 1990s, the area under the bridge became the site of a rough and sometimes murderously violent "tent city" campsite for the homeless.As of January 2016, the bridge is in a state of disrepair, riddled with numerous potholes – some exposing the rebar below.

MedStar Harbor Hospital is a private nonprofit, 150-bed, acute care teaching hospital in Baltimore City, Maryland, U.S. It is located on South Hanover Street along the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River in the Cherry Hill neighborhood of South Baltimore. The hospital has around 10,000 inpatients admissions and close to 60,000 emergency department visits per year. Its areas of specialty include orthopaedics, oncology, women's services, cardiology, internal medicine and neurosurgery. Harbor Hospital also offers a medical residency program in internal medicine and a transitional program that prepares residents to specialize in other areas.

Westport station is a Baltimore Light Rail station in Baltimore, Maryland. It is located north of Smith Cove on the west side of the Patapsco River in Baltimore's the Westport neighborhood. It currently has no free public parking but has connections to MTA Maryland buses 27 and 51.

Cherry Hill station is a Baltimore Light Rail stop in Baltimore, Maryland. There is currently no free public parking at this station, but connections can be made to 3 of MTA Maryland's buses from here.The Cherry Hill stop is accessible to the streets via a walking tunnel. When the station opened in 1992, this raised concerns about safety, as the tunnel could be a hideout for muggers. The agency then known as the Mass Transit Administration pledged to keep a police vehicle parked at the station at all times to address these concerns.

Patapsco station is a Baltimore Light Rail station in Halethorpe, Maryland. The stop is located along Patapsco Avenue from which its name is derived. The station serves as a hub for several MTA bus routes. Patapsco was the final stop along the line for a period from September 1992 until April 1993, when the line was extended to Linthicum. The station has 216 spaces for commuters, some of that allow for overnight parking. Patapasco station was the original northern terminus of the Baltimore and Annapolis Railroad, which connected to the Curtis Bay Branch of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Bus routes 14, 75, 51, 77 and the Patapsco branch of CityLink Yellow lay over at the station. Route 16 also passes through the station in both directions along its route.

Westport is a neighborhood in south Baltimore, Maryland. Westport is a majority African-American neighborhood that has struggled with crime, housing abandonment, and unemployment in the past decade. The neighborhood is bordered by the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River on the east, the city neighborhoods of Cherry Hill, Brooklyn and the southwestern Baltimore County community of Lansdowne to the southwest, Hollins Ferry Road and the Mount Winans and Lakeland neighborhoods to the west, and Interstate 95 to the north, along with the South Baltimore communities of Federal Hill and Otterbein. The Baltimore–Washington Parkway (Maryland Route 295 — formerly Interstate 295) runs through the middle of Westport and intersects with Interstate 95, the main East Coast super-highway, north to south, Maine to Florida.

National Enameling and Stamping Company is a historic factory complex located at Baltimore, Maryland, United States. It was constructed in 1887 to serve as the works of the Baltimore branch of the nation's largest tinware manufacturer, the National Enameling and Stamping Company (NESCO). The densely packed complex fills an almost 5-acre (2.0 ha) site and consists of 17 interconnected buildings and one structure that vary in height from one to five stories. The complex was organized to house three primary functions in discrete sections: the manufacture of tinware, the manufacture of enameled and japanned wares, and storage, warehousing, and distribution. The plant ceased production of tinware and enameled wares in 1952.NESCO owner George Worth Knapp lived nearby at the Hilton estate and dairy farm near Catonsville, Maryland purchased in 1917.National Enameling and Stamping Company was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

South Baltimore is a neighborhood in the Southern District of Baltimore, located to the west of the neighborhood of Riverside and south of Federal Hill. Its boundaries are marked by East Ostend Street (north), Light Street (east), Race Street (west) and Interstate 95 (south).

The Jernigan Institute is a research and training institute developed and run by the blind. Named after Dr.Kenneth Jernigan, it was the first of its kind. It was established in Baltimore in January 2004. The goal of the institute is to change attitudes about blindness and support the independence of blind individuals.
