Great Craggy Mountains

North Fork Reservoir is a freshwater reservoir in Black Mountain, North Carolina, near Swannanoa. It was created by damming the north fork of the Swannanoa River to provide a source of water for Asheville, North Carolina. The city of Asheville purchased 5,000 acres of land in the North Fork Valley through eminent domain and flooded it to create the reservoir.

Thomas Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church is a historic African Methodist Episcopal church located at Black Mountain, Buncombe County, North Carolina. It was built in 1922 by descendants of freed slaves, and is a one-story, frame building with Gothic Revival design influences. It is sheathed in weatherboard and features a tall, pyramidal-roof bell tower.This church may have always been called "Thomas Chapel", but a predecessor "Tom's Chapel", named for one of its builders, was built around 1892.: 12 It was deemed locally significant as an intact example of a Gothic Revival-influenced church and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.

South Montreat Road Historic District is a national historic district located at Black Mountain, Buncombe County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 34 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Black Mountain. The district includes a variety of early-20th century dwellings in the Colonial Revival, American Craftsman, and Neoclassical styles. The district is characterized by a mix of primarily one- and two-story frame houses on small lots.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
