Oteen Veterans Administration Hospital Historic District is a historic hospital complex and national historic district located at Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 18 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure associated with the Veterans' Administration hospital at Asheville. They were built between 1924 and 1940, and include white frame Colonial Revival and massive yellow stucco Georgian Revival structures. Notable buildings include the Administration Building (1928), Wards A and B (1925), Wards C and D (1930), Wards E and F (1932), Kitchen (1926) and Dining Hall (1930), Officers' Quarters (1927), and Nurses Dormitories (1930 and 1932). In 1967, a new Asheville, VA Medical Center complex was built adjacent to the original.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

William Nelson Camp Jr. House is a historic home site located at Fairview, Buncombe County, North Carolina. The complex consists of Rustic-style buildings constructed with native materials built about 1926. The main house is a 1+1⁄2-story, six-bay, L-plan dwelling of log and frame construction. Related contributing buildings and structures include the water storage building, garage, caretaker's cottage, two spring houses, and a barn.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

The Qualla Boundary of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians is also within the National Heritage Area. The area's musical heritage and folk craftsmanship are also recognized by the National Heritage Area.The National Heritage Area includes Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, McDowell, Macon, Madison, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Surry, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes, Yadkin and Yancey counties.The Blue Ridge National Heritage Area was established 10 Nov 2003 by Public Law 108-108.

Craven Gap (el. 3,132 ft (955 m)) is a mountain pass between Peach Knob and Rice Knob, part of the Elk Mountains and Great Craggy Mountains. NC 694 (Town Mountain Road) connects with the Blue Ridge Parkway at the gap, where it provides direct access to downtown Asheville. The gap also has trails for hikers and is a popular bicycle rest area.
