Montreat Conference Center (also known as the Mountain Retreat Association) located in Montreat, North Carolina, United States, is a conference center serving the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). The word "Montreat" is a portmanteau of the words "mountain" and "retreat."

Montreat College (pronounced "mon-treet") is a private, Christian college in Montreat, North Carolina. Founded in 1916, the college offers associate, bachelor's, and master's degree programs for traditional and adult students. The college's main campus for four-year traditional students is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains outside of Asheville, North Carolina.

The district is characterized by a mix of primarily one- and two-story frame houses on small lots.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

Ridgecrest is an unincorporated community in eastern Buncombe County, North Carolina, United States, off Interstate 40/U.S. Route 70. The community is part of the Asheville Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is home to Ridgecrest Conference Center (established 1907), Camp Ridgecrest for Boys (established 1929) and Camp Crestridge for Girls (established 1955). All three facilities are operated by the newly founded Ridgecrest Foundation and are affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. The conference center and summer camps were purchased by the Ridgecrest Foundation on December 30, 2020. Both summer camps are run under the direction of Phil Berry.

McDibbs, a music house in Black Mountain, North Carolina pioneered the development of both the non-smoking bar, and the now thriving Asheville area music scene. David Peele founded McDibbs in the late 70's to showcase local talent. His innovations in running McDibbs eventually drew high-profile regional acts like Bela Fleck while retaining a rich bohemian vibe within the establishment. McDibbs reflected a community reminiscent of the Greenwich Village Folk Revival of the 1960s, and reflected a non traditional aesthetic. The community of musicians, artists, and storytellers viewed McDibbs as a cultural landmark that set the stage for the rise of the Asheville area's music and art scene. It was from this environment that current international acts like David Wilcox and Poetry Alive! began at McDibbs.

The district encompasses 56 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure in the central business district of Black Mountain. The district includes a variety of late-19th and early-20th century commercial and institutional buildings in the Commercial Style, American Craftsman, Classical Revival, Art Deco and Art Moderne. Notable buildings include the George Stepp House (1907), Black Mountain Depot (1909), firehouse (1921) designed by Richard Sharp Smith, town hall (1927), Kaltman Building (1928), and Pure Oil Service Station (c. 1945).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

Monte Vista Hotel is a historic hotel building located at Black Mountain, Buncombe County, North Carolina. It was built in 1937, and is a three-story, L-shaped Colonial Revival style brick building with a hipped roof. A six-room, one-story addition was built about 1940 that connects, by an enclosed breezeway, to a 16-room, one-story, L-shaped annex added in 1980. Also on the property is a contributing two-story, frame farmhouse (c. 1926).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

The town is named for the old train stop at the Black Mountain Depot and is located at the southern end of the Black Mountain range of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Southern Appalachians.

Intheoaks, also known as In-the-oaks, is a historic estate and a national historic district located at Black Mountain, Buncombe County, North Carolina. The district encompasses nine contributing buildings, two contributing sites, seven contributing structures, and four contributing objects associated with a country estate of the 1920s. The main house was built in 1921–1923, and is a four-level, U-shaped Tudor country manor house with an oblique wing. It was designed by New York architect Frank E. Wallis, with a large recreation wing containing a ballroom, gymnasium, bowling alley, and indoor swimming pool designed by architect Richard Sharp Smith. Also on the property are the contributing Caretaker's Cottage (1923), agricultural and service outbuildings, main entrance gates designed by Smith and Carrier (1922), and landscape designed by noted landscape architect Chauncey Beadle The property is known as Camp Henry, a camp for young people and the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina offices are located on the estate.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991.
