St Helena Mill, Horsford

Horsford is a village six miles north of Norwich, England which is surrounded by the Horsford Forest and is named after the dried up section of the River Hor. Its population has seen a steady increase since the Second World War, growing from 750 in 1945 to 4,163 at the 2011 Census. There are various explanations of the village name. It is usually said to derive from 'horse ford', but it has also been suggested that it comes from the River Hor on which the village stands (more usually known to locals as 'the Beck'). A third explanation is that it comes from Horsa, the name of a Saxon chief. The surrounding Horsford Forest has been designated a County Wildlife Site. The rare silver-studded blue butterfly has a colony in this forest. The motte of the demolished Horsford Castle lies to the east of the village.

Manor Park is a cricket ground in Horsford, Norfolk. The ground is the main home ground of Norfolk County Cricket Club. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1986, when Norfolk played their first MCCA Knockout Trophy match on the ground against Suffolk. The same season they played another MCCA Knockout Trophy match against Oxfordshire at the ground. Norfolk next played at the ground in 2001, when they played their first Minor Counties Championship match on the ground against Lincolnshire. From 2001 to present, the ground has hosted 30 Minor Counties Championship matches and 22 MCCA Knockout Trophy matches.The ground has held List-A matches. The first List-A match at the ground saw Norfolk play Wales Minor Counties in the 2nd round of the 2001 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy. From 2001 to 2003, the ground hosted 5 List-A matches, the last of which saw Norfolk play Lincolnshire in the 1st round of the 2004 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy which was played in 2003.In local domestic cricket, the ground is the home of Horsford Cricket Club who play in the East Anglian Premier Cricket League.

Drayton railway station is a former station in Norfolk, England. Constructed by the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway in the 1880s, on the line between Melton Constable and Norwich, it was closed to passengers in 1959. It served the settlement of Drayton now on the outskirts of Norwich. The site is now home to an industrial site, Many of the buildings follow the old footings of the platform and other buildings. Thorpe Marriott is a residential area in Norfolk, England covering part of Taverham and Drayton parishes. Much of the housing was built in the latter part of the 20th century. It enjoys the amenities of both parishes which are easily accessible from the Fakenham road A1047 road. Although lacking its own school and surgery, The Square in Thorpe Marriott holds five shops, Thorpe Marriott village hall, Trinity Ecumenical Church (Methodist & Anglican) and The Otter public house. Horsham St Faith is a village in Norfolk, England. The village lies close and to the east of the A140 road and is 5 miles (8.0 km) north of Norwich and some 8 miles (12.9 km) south of Aylsham It takes its name from the River Hor, which runs through it on its way from Horsford to Horstead; and a Benedictine priory, founded in honour of St Faith that, until the dissolution of the monasteries, stood there. It is near Norwich International Airport, which began in 1939 as RAF Horsham St Faith and home of the City of Norwich Aviation Museum. Administratively it is in the civil parish of Horsham St Faith and Newton St Faith within the district of Broadland. It also forms part the wider Norwich Built-up area. The name 'Horsham' means 'horse homestead/village'. It has the remains of a Horsford Castle, a motte and bailey castle, on the Horsford side of the A140 road, reached by following a track to the north of Church Street, which joins Horsford and Horsham St Faith. On 17 October from the early 12th century until 1872 it played host to one of the country's largest cattle fairs. This fair was held to the south of Spixworth Road around Bullock Hill and Calf Lane.At the beginning of the 20th century, the Manor House and the land that in 1939 became RAF Horsham St Faith, was owned by John Thomas Spurrell, youngest son of Richard James Spurrell, of Thurgarton. Inside the church at Horsham St Faith there is a memorial to his eldest son, John Francis Brabazon Spurrell, who was killed by buffalo at Kibaya, Tanganyika, in 1927.

Horsham St Faith and Newton St Faith is a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk, consisting of the former parishes of Horsham St Faith and Newton St Faith. Collectively they are known as St Faiths. It covers an area of 7.33 km2 (2.83 sq mi) and had a population of 1,624 in 770 households at the 2001 census, increasing to a population of 1,724 in 797 households at the 2011 Census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of Broadland.

St Faith's and Aylsham Rural Districts were adjacent rural districts in Norfolk, England from 1894 to 1935.They were formed under the Local Government Act 1894 based on rural sanitary districts of the same names, and lay to the north of Norwich. In 1935 some northern parts of Aylsham RD were variously transferred to Walsingham, Erpingham and Smallburgh RDs. The remainder, and the whole of St Faith's RD, were merged to form St Faith's and Aylsham Rural District. Changes to the border with Norwich County Borough were made in 1907, 1951 and 1968. In 1974, the merged district was abolished under the Local Government Act 1972, and became part of the Broadland district.

The Marriott's Way is a long-distance footpath, cycle-path and bridleway between Norwich and Aylsham, Norfolk, England. It forms part of the National Cycle Network (NCN) (Route 1) and the red route of Norwich's Pedalways cycle path network. It is open to walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Its total length is 24.6 miles (39.5 km). It has a mixture of surfaces; tarmac, compacted gravel, and earth. The name of the route originates from the chief engineer and manager of the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway (M&GNJR), William Marriott, who held the position for 41 years.
