Grand Opera House (Philadelphia)
Grand Opera House was a theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania located at the corner of Broad Street and Montgomery Avenue. It operated as both a legitimate theatre and a venue for other kinds of entertainments. In 1912 it was re-named Nixon's Grand Opera House after being acquired by theatre magnate Fred G. Nixon-Nirdlinger. At that point the theatre operated as primarily a venue for vaudeville. While still officially, Nixon's Grand Opera House, it was often referred to as Nixon's Grand or Nixon's Grand Theatre in the 1920s. In 1930 it's name was officially changed to Nixon's Grand Theatre when it was converted into a cinema leased to Fox Films. It operated as a movie theatre until 1940 when the theatre was mostly demolished.
