Whitby—Oshawa was a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2004. Following the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution, the bulk of the district became part of the new Whitby district, while parts of it will be transferred to Oshawa and Durham.

Oshawa Executive Airport (IATA: YOO, ICAO: CYOO) is a municipal airport adjacent to the north end of the city of Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. It is the busiest general aviation airport without scheduled airline service in the Greater Toronto Area by aircraft movements and one of the busiest general aviation only airports in Canada. It includes two paved runways and instrument approaches. From 2002 to 2008, Oshawa hosted the annual Canadian Aviation Expo, Canada's largest annual aviation event, before the expo moved to John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport in 2009. Oshawa Airport now hosts the Girls Take Flight event that takes place every spring.The airport is classified as an airport of entry by Nav Canada and is staffed on call by the Canada Border Services Agency. CBSA officers at this airport can handle aircraft with no more than 50 passengers. The officers also provide weekday call out for general aviation arriving from outside Canada to Buttonville Municipal Airport in Markham, Ontario.

Ontario Tech University (OTU), also known as Ontario Tech, is a public research university located in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. The university's main campus is located on approximately 160 hectares (400 acres) of land in northern Oshawa, while its secondary satellite campus is situated in downtown Oshawa. The university is a co-educational institution that operates seven academic faculties. The institution was founded in 2002 as the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) and is still legally known by that name. In its first decade of operation, the university developed its main campus with the construction of several new buildings. In 2011, the university opened its secondary campus in downtown Oshawa. In 2018, the university was rebranded as Ontario Tech University.In 2021, there were approximately 10,100 undergraduates and 970 graduate students enrolled at the university. As of 2022, the university holds an association with over 25,500 alumni.

The Regional Municipality of Durham (), informally referred to as Durham Region, is a regional municipality in Southern Ontario, Canada. Located east of Toronto and the Regional Municipality of York, Durham forms the east-end of the Greater Toronto Area and part of the Golden Horseshoe region. It has an area of approximately 2,500 km2 (970 sq mi). The regional government is headquartered in Whitby. The southern portion of the region, on Lake Ontario is primarily suburban in nature, forming the eastern end of the 905 area code belt of suburbs around Toronto. The northern area comprises rural areas and small towns. The city of Pickering, town of Ajax and the township of Uxbridge are part of the Toronto Census Metropolitan Area, while the communities of Oshawa, Whitby, and Clarington comprise the Oshawa Census Metropolitan Area.

The Oshawa Military and Industrial Museum is an accredited Canadian Forces Museum located in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada. The museum, more commonly known as The Ontario Regiment (RCAC) "Ferret Club", was founded in Oshawa in 1980 and has grown to become the Historic Vehicle Section of the Ontario Regiment Museum. The museum's maintainers are a group of volunteer military vehicle enthusiasts. The group includes civilians as well as several current and former members of the RCAC, and other units of the Canadian Army and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

Whitby—Oshawa was a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from the 2007 provincial election until 2018. The riding was adjusted by the 2015 Representation Act for the 2018 provincial election, losing some territory to the district of Oshawa, and replaced as the district of Whitby.

The Durham District School Board (DDSB, known as English-language Public District School Board No. 15 prior to 1999) is a public school board in the province of Ontario, Canada. The board serves most of the Regional Municipality of Durham, except for schools within the Municipality of Clarington, which instead belong to the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. The Durham District School Board Education Centre head office is based in Whitby. The school board has families of schools Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, and Brock-Uxbridge-Scugog, each of which has two trustees except Oshawa, which has three. Three student trustees, using a non-binding, recorded vote, represent the region of Durham. In total the school board has more than 7000 staff who serve approximately 46,000 elementary and 24,000 secondary school students. Previously known as the Ontario County Board of Education, the board was known as the Durham Region Board of Education when it came into existence in 1974. The DRBE was renamed to the Durham District School Board in 1998 and francophone schools that were managed by this board are now part of Conseil scolaire Viamonde. A unique program to the Durham District School Board that is running in a number of its secondary schools is called the Culture of Peace Committee, which works on a wide variety of social and humanitarian issues within the schools and in the community. The Durham District School Board operates a gifted program in select schools. This program for students in grades 4–12 entails material being taught at an accelerated rate. Acceptance into the program is based on ranking in the top 1% of a test in mathematics, logic and literacy during grade 3.

Sinclair Secondary School is located in Whitby, Ontario and opened in 1994. Serving both Special Education and French Immersion students, the school is recognized for its strong academic reputation and remains the highest ranked school in the Durham Region, according to the Fraser Institute's Ontario Secondary School Report Card program.
