The Durham District School Board (DDSB, known as English-language Public District School Board No. 15 prior to 1999) is a public school board in the province of Ontario, Canada. The board serves most of the Regional Municipality of Durham, except for schools within the Municipality of Clarington, which instead belong to the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. The Durham District School Board Education Centre head office is based in Whitby. The school board has families of schools Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, and Brock-Uxbridge-Scugog, each of which has two trustees except Oshawa, which has three. Three student trustees, using a non-binding, recorded vote, represent the region of Durham. In total the school board has more than 7000 staff who serve approximately 46,000 elementary and 24,000 secondary school students. Previously known as the Ontario County Board of Education, the board was known as the Durham Region Board of Education when it came into existence in 1974. The DRBE was renamed to the Durham District School Board in 1998 and francophone schools that were managed by this board are now part of Conseil scolaire Viamonde. A unique program to the Durham District School Board that is running in a number of its secondary schools is called the Culture of Peace Committee, which works on a wide variety of social and humanitarian issues within the schools and in the community. The Durham District School Board operates a gifted program in select schools. This program for students in grades 4–12 entails material being taught at an accelerated rate. Acceptance into the program is based on ranking in the top 1% of a test in mathematics, logic and literacy during grade 3.

The Regional Municipality of Durham (), informally referred to as Durham Region, is a regional municipality in Southern Ontario, Canada. Located east of Toronto and the Regional Municipality of York, Durham forms the east-end of the Greater Toronto Area and part of the Golden Horseshoe region. It has an area of approximately 2,500 km2 (970 sq mi). The regional government is headquartered in Whitby. The southern portion of the region, on Lake Ontario is primarily suburban in nature, forming the eastern end of the 905 area code belt of suburbs around Toronto. The northern area comprises rural areas and small towns. Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary School (also known as Father Leo, Leo J. Austin, FLJA, or Austin for short) is a coeducational, Catholic, secondary school located in Whitby, Ontario, Canada, and it is managed by the Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB). Today, it is an active school and is open for students grade 9 to 12. It’s one of the Catholic high schools in the DCDSB to offer the French Immersion program which draws students around the Durham Region.

St. Matthew the Evangelist Catholic School (St. Matthew) is a coeducational, Catholic, elementary school in Whitby, Ontario, managed by the Durham Catholic District School Board. St. Matthew is located in Willowbrook Drive near Ormiston Public School. It was named after St. Matthew the Evangelist, one of the 12 Apostles Jesus chose. Today, St. Matthew serves students from Junior Kindergarten to 8th grade.St. Matthew the Evangelist School is a feeder school for Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary School and All Saints Catholic Secondary School.

Whitby is a federal electoral district (riding) in Ontario consisting of the entire town of Whitby, Ontario. The boundaries for Whitby were created by the 2012 federal electoral boundaries redistribution and were legally defined in the 2013 representation order. The riding came into existence upon the call of the 42nd Canadian federal election in October 2015. It was created out of the district of Whitby—Oshawa. It is a key Liberal-Conservative marginal seat.

Whitby Township is a geographic township and former municipality in what was Ontario County (now Durham Region), Ontario, Canada. It is now part of the Town of Whitby. The Township was established in 1792 (1792) as part of what was then York County. Whitby Township was one of five townships along Lake Ontario named for towns in northeast England (York, Scarborough, Pickering, Whitby and Darlington). In 1852, the Township became part of the newly formed County of Ontario. In 1855, the Town of Whitby was incorporated as a separate municipality in the southern portion of the Township and in 1858, the Township of East Whitby was formed from the eastern portion of the municipality near Oshawa. Whitby Township was mainly a rural municipality, but contained the communities of Brooklin, Ashburn, Myrtle and Myrtle Station. The Township was amalgamated with Whitby in 1968 to form an expanded Town of Whitby.

All Saints Catholic Secondary School is a secondary school located in Whitby, Ontario, Canada open for students in grades 7–12. It offers a broad range of academic programs including Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), Cooperative Education (Co-Op), Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM), Advanced Placement (AP), Head Start, Centre for Success/Reconnect, and Electronic learning. It is adjacent to Donald A Wilson Secondary School.

Donald A. Wilson Secondary School is a high school located in Whitby, Ontario, Canada. Opened in 2004, the school hosts students in grades 9-12 and offers a wide range of academic and extra-curricular activities. The school mascot is an alligator and the school colours are orange, blue, and silver. It is adjacent to All Saints Catholic Secondary School.
