Petřvald (Karviná District)

The Ostrava Basin (Czech: Ostravská pánev, Polish: Kotlina Ostrawska, German: Ostrauer Becken) is a lowland and a geomorphological mesoregion of the Czech Republic and Poland. It is located in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic and in the Silesian Voivodeship of Poland.

It was a separate municipality but in 1960 became administratively a part of the city of Havířov built in 1955. It has a population of 17,082 (2020). It lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. It was formerly a village but during the communist era a massive construction of so-called paneláks occurred during the construction of a new city of Havířov, and Šumbark was transformed to an urban neighbourhood. Still some old houses remain although the majority of the population of Šumbark live in paneláks.

Monument to fallen for Těšín Silesia (Czech: Pomník padlým za Těšínsko) is a monument in Orlová commemorating Czech victims of the Polish–Czechoslovak War and the following plebiscite period during the Polish–Czechoslovak dispute over Cieszyn Silesia (1919–1920). The monument was built in 1928, damaged during the Polish annexation of the territory in 1938–1939 and after the end of the World War II partially reconstructed.

Michálkovice (Polish: Michałkowice, German: Michalkowitz) is an administrative district of the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. It lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia and was first mentioned in a written document in 1440. It witnessed heavy industrialization in the second half of the 19th century and several coal mines were dug here, most important was Michal Coal Mine. In 1907 Michálkovice gained a market town rights. Formerly an independent municipality, in 1941 it became a part of Ostrava. According to the Austrian census of 1910 the market town had 6,818 inhabitants, 6,794 of whom had permanent residence there. Census asked people for their native language, 4,147 (61%) were Czech-speaking and 2,481 (36.5%) were Polish-speaking. Most populous religious groups were Roman Catholics with 6,560 (96.2%), Protestants with 142 (2%) and the Jews with 108 (1.6%).The most important landmark in Michálkovice is inactive Michal Coal Mine which is a National Cultural Landmark.

Radvanice (Polish: Radwanice, German: Radwanitz) is a part of the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. Administratively it is a part of the district of Radvanice a Bartovice. Radvanice was formerly an independent municipality, in 1941 it became a part of Ostrava.

The Michal Mine (Czech: důl Michal) is a former coal mine and now a museum in Ostrava in the Czech Republic. It is a museum of mining located in the pit bank of a former hard coal mine. The museum is an Anchor point on the European Route of Industrial Heritage. The buildings have been preserved as they looked at the turn of the 20th century. The area was declared a national cultural monument in 1995.
