Michal Mine

Michálkovice (Polish: Michałkowice, German: Michalkowitz) is an administrative district of the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. It lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia and was first mentioned in a written document in 1440. It witnessed heavy industrialization in the second half of the 19th century and several coal mines were dug here, most important was Michal Coal Mine. In 1907 Michálkovice gained a market town rights. Formerly an independent municipality, in 1941 it became a part of Ostrava. According to the Austrian census of 1910 the market town had 6,818 inhabitants, 6,794 of whom had permanent residence there. Census asked people for their native language, 4,147 (61%) were Czech-speaking and 2,481 (36.5%) were Polish-speaking. Most populous religious groups were Roman Catholics with 6,560 (96.2%), Protestants with 142 (2%) and the Jews with 108 (1.6%).The most important landmark in Michálkovice is inactive Michal Coal Mine which is a National Cultural Landmark.

Ostrava Zoo, (Zoologická zahrada Ostrava) is a zoo, located in Ostrava in the Czech Republic.Ostrava Zoo was founded as Kunčičky Zoo in 1951, on an area called the Miners' Park in Ostrava-Kunčičky. But already in 1956 construction of the new zoo in Stromovka park was undertaken, and in 1960 the zoo and animals were transferred to Stromovka park.In 1996 Ostrava Zoo became a member in the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). Ostrava Zoo is open every day from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.

Heřmanice (Polish: Herzmanice or Hermanice, German: Herzmanitz) is a part of the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. Administratively it is a part of the district of Slezská Ostrava. It lies in the historical region of Těšín Silesia

Radvanice (Polish: Radwanice, German: Radwanitz) is a part of the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. Administratively it is a part of the district of Radvanice a Bartovice. Radvanice was formerly an independent municipality, in 1941 it became a part of Ostrava.

The Ostrava Basin (Czech: Ostravská pánev, Polish: Kotlina Ostrawska, German: Ostrauer Becken) is a lowland and a geomorphological mesoregion of the Czech Republic and Poland. It is located in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic and in the Silesian Voivodeship of Poland.

The 12th Bolesław Krzywousty Szczecin Mechanised Division (Polish: 12 Szczecińska Dywizja Zmechanizowana im. Bolesława Krzywoustego (12 DZ, 12 SDZ)) is a division of the Polish Armed Forces, headquartered in Szczecin. It traces its heritage back to the 1919 formation of the 6th Polish Rifle Division of the Blue Army in France. The division returned to Poland and was redesignated as the 12th Infantry Division (Polish: 12 Dywizja Piechoty) later that year, fighting in the Polish–Soviet War. During the September 1939 Invasion of Poland, the division was part of the southern group of the Prusy Army and was surrounded and destroyed by German forces during the Battle of Radom. It was briefly reformed in 1944 as part of the Home Army, and later that year the Polish People's Army briefly formed a 12th Infantry Division as part of the abortive 3rd Polish Army, but it was quickly broken up. The Polish People's Army reformed the division in Poznań during the final weeks of World War II, and it was sent to Szczecin to secure the area and expel the German population in the immediate postwar period. The division has remained headquartered at Szczecin since then, and was converted into a mechanised division in 1958.

Muglinov (Polish: Muglinów, German: Muglinau) is a part of the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. Administratively it is a part of the district of Slezská Ostrava.

Hrušov (Polish: Gruszów or Hruszów, German: Hruschau) is a part of the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. Hrušov is historically a market town, now administratively a part of the district of Slezská Ostrava.

The Bazaly stadium is a football stadium in Ostrava, Czech Republic. It lays in Slezská Ostrava, the Silesian part of the city, next to the Ostravice River. The first match was played there on 19 April 1959, it functioned as the home stadium of FC Baník Ostrava until the end of the 2014–15 Czech First League season. The stadium was reconstructed in 2003 (added new seats, new V.I.P. rooms, cloak-rooms and press center). The cost was about 30 mil. CZK, cca. 1mil. EUR), and the pitch was replaced in 2004. In June 2014 a new capacity of 10,039 was announced for the forthcoming season. The stadium was closed in 2015, and Baník Ostrava went on to play at Městský stadion instead. Heavy metal band Iron Maiden played at the stadium for a 38,000 capacity crowd on 6 June 2007. It was the biggest rock concert in Ostrava.

Colours of Ostrava, or simply Colours, is a multi-genre festival, the biggest international music festival in the Czech Republic and one of the biggest music events in Central Europe, held every summer since 2002 in Ostrava, the third biggest city in the country. Colours features 16 stages including 4 big open-air stages (the main one with a capacity of 15,000), 6 indoor stages, a theatre stage, a workshop stage, a kids' stage, a cinema and live discussions. It features performers from all major popular music genres as well as avant-garde music and world music. Until 2012 Colours took place in the well-known Silesian Ostrava Castle entertainment district and on the Černá louka Fairgrounds, as well as at other places in the city centre. In 2010, attendance exceeded 30,000 and it became the first festival in the Czech Republic to be sold out a month in advance. In 2011, the festival celebrated its 10th anniversary, being held from 14 to 17 July. Since 2012 the festival takes place on recultivated brownfields in the Vítkovice city district.

Silesian Ostrava Castle (Czech: Slezskoostravský hrad) is a castle in Ostrava, in the Northeastern Czech Republic. It was originally built in the 1280s near the confluence of the Lučina and Ostravice rivers. The castle was built for military purposes due to its proximity to the Polish border. In 1534, the gothic castle was rebuilt into a renaissance chateau. It burned down in 1872 but was rebuilt. It was restored recently after many years of dilapidation, caused by coal mining under the castle. Today, the castle is one of the most important tourist attractions of the city. The castle held the Colours of Ostrava festival in 2007.

Slezská Ostrava (Polish: Śląska Ostrawa, lit. Silesian Ostrava), till 1919 Polnisch Ostrau (Czech: Polská Ostrava, Polish: Polska Ostrawa, lit. Polish Ostrava) is a district of the city of Ostrava, Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. It lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia, not counting Koblov and Antošovice lying north-west from the Oder river in the Hlučín Region. It comprises historical city of Slezská Ostrava as well as market town of Hrušov and villages Antošovice, Heřmanice, Koblov, Kunčice, Kunčičky and Muglinov.
