The Joseph Gire Building, better known as the A Noite Building or Edificio o Jornal A Noite, is an office building located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil that served as the headquarters of the Rio-based newspaper A Noite. At a height of 102 meters, it was the tallest building in Brazil for two years between 1927 and 1929 before it was surpassed by the Martinelli Building in São Paulo.

Praça Mauá (English: Mauá Square) is a square situated in the Centro neighborhood of the Zona Central of Rio de Janeiro. With an area of 25,000 m2, it is part of the Orla Conde, a public sidewalk that runs alongside Guanabara Bay. The square was established in the beginning of the 20th century, later being reinaugurated on 6 September 2015 after being renovated. The revitalization of the square was made as part of Porto Maravilha, an urban renewal project that seeks to revitalize the Zona Portuária of Rio de Janeiro. Praça Mauá marked the start of Avenida Rio Branco, as well as the Port of Rio de Janeiro, giving the numbering of the warehouses that begin at the square. The center of the square is occupied by a statue of Irineu Evangelista de Sousa, the Viscount of Mauá, a pioneer in various areas of the Brazilian economy. The Viscount of Mauá, which also gave the plaza its name, was responsible for the construction of the Mauá Railway, the first railway in Brazil, and for the creation of the Banco do Brasil, among other achievements. Built on top of a column, the sculpture is the work of Rodolfo Bernardelli and was inaugurated in 1910 at the initiative of the Clube de Engenharia.

Colégio de São Bento is a Benedictine school for boys in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with a history that dates back more than 150 years. It was founded in 1858 on the hills overlooking Rio de Janeiro's harbor and the Guanabara Bay, by the adjacent Benedictine monastery (Portuguese: Mosteiro de São Bento). Although the school is still run by the monastery, students who attend it may come from any denomination or religion. All students follow a broad course of study, which includes Theology, Music, Algebra, Geometry, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Classic Culture, Brazilian and Portuguese Literature, Geography, History, Portuguese, Spanish, French, and English Languages, Philosophy, Sociology, as well the History of Music, Architecture and Fine Arts, among other subjects. The school has been consistently rated the best Brazilian high school by ENEM (National High School Assessment Test), showing the highest ranking of college admissions in the country. Its graduates, who refer to themselves as Benedictines include Brazilian leaders from government and business, renowned doctors, educators, poets, musicians and writers.

The Museum of Tomorrow (Portuguese: Museu do Amanhã) is a science museum in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was designed by Spanish neofuturistic architect Santiago Calatrava, and built next to the waterfront at Pier Maua. Its construction was supported by the Roberto Marinho Foundation and cost approximately 230 million reais. The building was opened on December 17, 2015, with President Dilma Rousseff in attendance.

There is also a Diocese of Rio de Janeiro (and a Bishop of Rio de Janeiro) in the Anglican Episcopal Church of Brazil. The Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro (Latin: Archidioecesis Sancti Sebastiani Fluminis Ianuarii, lit. "Archdiocese of St. Sebastian of Rio de Janeiro") in Brazil was established as a territorial prelature on July 19, 1575. It was elevated to the status of a diocese on November 16, 1676. It was later elevated to a metropolitan archdiocese on April 27, 1892. On May 6, 2003, the territorial abbey of Nossa Senhora do Monserrate do Rio de Janeiro lost its territorial rank and was added to the archdiocese. Cardinal Orani João Tempesta O. Cist. has been its Archbishop since 2009. Cardinal Eusébio Scheid S.C.I., who died on January 13, 2021, was Archbishop Emeritus.

The Neutral Municipality (Portuguese: Município Neutro), more formally known in the imperial era as the Neutral Municipality of the Court (Município Neutro da Corte), in reference to the Imperial Court, was an administrative unit created in the Empire of Brazil, that existed in the territory corresponding to the current location of the municipality of Rio de Janeiro between August 12, 1834 (when it was proclaimed the Additional Act to the Constitution of 1824) and November 15, 1889, when was proclaimed the republic in Brazil. It only officially ceased to exist with the promulgation of the 1891 Constitution. Under the republican constitution, this administrative unit became the Federal District in 1891, which was abolished and transformed into the state of Guanabara in 1960, and later, with the fusion of this with the state of Rio de Janeiro in 1975.

Igreja de Santa Rita de Cássia it is a Catholic temple of historical and artistic importance in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, listed by National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage (IPHAN) in 1938.

The Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat (Portuguese: Abadia de Nossa Senhora do Monserrate), more commonly known as the Mosteiro de São Bento (Monastery of St. Benedict), is a Benedictine abbey located on the Morro de São Bento (St. Benedict Hill) in downtown Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Mannerist style church is a primary example of Portuguese colonial architecture in Rio and the country. The abbey was founded by Benedictine monks who came from the state of Bahia in 1590. It is still operational today, along with the Colégio de São Bento (St. Benedict College) nearby. The college, established in 1858, is one of the most important traditional educational establishments in Brazil and claims many famous alumni. The abbey includes the Faculdade de São Bento (St. Benedict Seminary), with courses in theology and philosophy that are recognized by the Ministry of Education. Theological studies at the monastery are also affiliated with the Pontifical Atheneum of St. Anselm in Rome.

Saúde is a neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Its population in 2000 was 2186. Located on the coast, just north of the historical centre in downtown Rio, west of Praça Maua and east of Gamboa, Rio de Janeiro, it contains several notable hospitals such as Hospital dos Servidores de Estado and Hospital Pro Matre; the name Saúde means "Health" in Portuguese. It is marked by many homes for the lower middle class and numerous sheds, warehouses and depots are located in the region. The Church of Our Lady of Saúde was built in 1789 on the seafront and gave its name to the neighborhood of Saúde, although the church belongs, nowadays, to the neighborhood of Gamboa. Pedra do Sal, a historic and religious site, is located within Saúde. The Community Descendents of the Quilombos of Pedra do Sal (Portuguese: Comunidade Remanescentes de Quilombos da Pedra do Sal) were recognized as a historic site in 1984 by INEPAC, the Institute for State Cultural Heritage (Instituto Estadual do Patrimônio Cultural).

The Valongo Wharf (Portuguese: Cais do Valongo) is an old dock located in the port area of Rio de Janeiro, between the current Coelho e Castro and Sacadura Cabral streets. Built in 1811, it was the site of landing and trading of enslaved Africans until 1831, with the blockade of Africa banning the Atlantic slave trade to Brazil (but clandestine trade continued until 1888).During the twenty years of its operation, between 500 thousand and one million slaves landed at Valongo. Brazil received about 4.9 million slaves through the Atlantic trade.In 1843, the wharf was renovated for the landing of Princess Teresa Cristina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, who was to marry the emperor D. Pedro II. The wharf was then called Cais da Imperatriz (Empress Wharf).Between 1850 and 1920, the area around the old pier became a space occupied by black slaves or freedmen of several nations - an area that Heitor dos Prazeres called Pequena África (Little Africa).

The 2016 Summer Olympics cauldron (Portuguese: Pira Olímpica Rio 2016) was made for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In fact, there were two cauldrons, one in the Maracanã Stadium for ceremonial use, and another on Rio's new waterfront Boulevard Olímpico, opposite the 19th-century Neoclassical Candelária Church, which was lit after the Opening Ceremony and remained alight throughout the Games. They both featured small flame cauldrons backed by much larger kinetic sculptures created by the American artist Anthony Howe. The ceremonial version spans 40 feet (12 m) in diameter. Howe, in his work, wished to "replicate the sun, using movement to mimic its pulsing energy and reflection of light." After the 2016 Summer Olympics the waterfront cauldron has remained in place as a reminder of the Games.

The Candelária Church (Portuguese: Igreja da Candelária, pronounced [iˈgɾeʒɐ ðɐ kɐ̃deˈlaɾjɐ]) is an important historical Roman Catholic church in the city of Rio de Janeiro, in southeastern Brazil. It was built and decorated during a long period, from 1775 to the late 19th century. The church combines a Portuguese colonial Baroque façade with later Neoclassical and Neo-Renaissance interior elements.
