The New Mission Theater at 2550 Mission St in San Francisco was built in 1916, originally designed by the Reid Brothers. It was renovated for the Nasser Brothers circuit in 1932 by Timothy Pflueger, who transformed it into an Art Deco style masterpiece. It boasts a 70 foot (21 m) marquee sign that is a local landmark. In its early life, it showed mostly "B" movies. In the 1960s and 1970s it specialized in children's fare. The theater closed in 1993 and became a furniture store. It was purchased by the City College of San Francisco, who proposed to raze it and build new campus facilities. But a group called "Save The New Mission Theater", headed by Alfonso Felder, lobbied to stop the college from destroying the theater.The theater was renovated by the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema chain, and opened in December 2015.

Dance Mission Theater is a nonprofit performance venue and dance school located in the Mission District of San Francisco, California.The theatre is operated by Dance Brigade, a female dance troupe with a focus on social change.The theatre, known for its dance classes and performance art, has been ranked one of the best dance studios in San Francisco, offering around 50 classes and hosting roughly 1,500 students a week. The theatre offers approximately 48 weeks of programming per year.The theatre has been located in its current space since 1998. In December 2014, the theatre announced that it might have to relocate after its landlord increased the theatre's rent. The theatre applied for assistance from the city Government of San Francisco.As of late 2019, the organization planned to move, with two other local non-profits, to a new building at 18th and Mission.

Camp Alert was an American Civil War Union Army, training camp located at the Pioneer Race Course, near San Francisco, north of Bernal Heights. Today the site location is within the city, between 24th and 25th Streets (north and south) and Folsom and Mission Streets (east and west). Camp Alert was first used in 1862, as the place where the 2nd Regiment California Volunteer Cavalry was headquartered, organized and trained before moving to their headquarters to Utah Territory. Although the last unit of the 2nd California Volunteer Cavalry left April 30, 1863, it remained as a post until 1865.

Pioneer Race Course, also known as the Pioneer Race Track, was a horse race track opened in March 1851, in the southern Mission District of San Francisco, California.Pioneer was the first race course in San Francisco. At the time that it was built, no streets existed in the neighborhood. After construction, it appears to have been bounded by 24th St. (formerly Park St.), 26th St. (formerly Navy St.), Capp St., and Florida St.It was funded and built by local businessmen George Treat and his brother John Treat. The racetrack was physically built by Alfred Green.The race course was sold to the San Francisco Homestead Association in 1862 (or 1863) for $500 per acre, but would be worth $20,000 per acre within a decade. Lots within the property were auctioned in 1864. Early houses built within the property are now part of the Shotwell Street historic district, and another house within the property may be the oldest remaining home building in San Francisco.

They provide art studio space, art classes, an art gallery, and a theater. Their graphics department is called Mission Grafica, and features at studio for printmaking and is known for the hand printed posters. The center's building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 29, 2020.

Union Race Course was a horse racing track opened in the 1850s in San Francisco, California located in the Mission District. There were two horse race courses in the Mission District at this time, the other being Pioneer Race Course which was located a few blocks away. At the time it was planned to be built, no streets existed in this neighborhood but later it appears to be bound by 19th St to 23rd St and Capp St to Harrison St.The half mile track was renovated in 1862, moved slightly to softer ground and renamed 'Willows Trotting Park' but the increasing value of the land for housing proved too much. The final horse race was run at Union Race Course on July 18, 1863.The positioning of this race course, as well as the earlier built race course called Pioneer Race Course appear to have affected the placement of the San Francisco-San Jose Railway.

It is listed as a San Francisco Designated Landmark since October 25, 1985.It contains the Liberty Street Historic District, a two block area along Liberty Street listed as a California Historical Landmark, and one of the National Register of Historic Places.
