Galanta

Galanta District (okres Galanta) is a district in the Trnava Region of western Slovakia. The district lies on the lowland area. Through the district area flows River Váh and its level is regulated by dam in Kráľová nad Váhom. Historically the economy of the district area had relied on agriculture, now the production of white goods is of utmost importance. The district center is its largest town Galanta and there are 36 municipalities, in three of them are towns. The Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály spent most of his childhood in Galanta and composed the Dances of Galánta (1933, for orchestra) based on the folk music of this region.

The Esterházy of Galanta castle is a renaissance castle. It is one of the most important historical buildings of Galanta, Slovakia. Originally, the residency of the Esterházy family, a branch called the Esterházy "of Galanta". it was built and inhabited by the Esterházy of Galanta family since around 1630, when it was built. It is still in renovation nowadays, and hopefully, will one day serve as a part of the regional museum in Slovakia. Its ground floor is a restaurant and serves as a place for holding wedding ceremonies and for bigger representational activities, the basement is a hip bar, and hosts cultural and social activities, and the first floor will in the near future serve as a gallery and for museum purposes.

Matúškovo (formerly Takšoň; Hungarian: Taksony, until 1899 Taksonyfalva) is a village and municipality in Galanta District of the Trnava Region of south-west Slovakia.

Topoľnica (Hungarian: Tósnyárasd) is a village and municipality in Galanta District of the Trnava Region of south-west Slovakia.

Váhovce (Hungarian: Vága) is a village and municipality in Galanta District of the Trnava Region of south-west Slovakia.

Dolná Streda (Hungarian: Alsószerdahely) is a village and municipality in the Galanta District of the Trnava Region of western Slovakia.

Sereď (Slovak pronunciation: [ˈserec]; Hungarian: Szered [ˈsɛrɛd]) is a town in southern Slovakia near Trnava, on the right bank of the Váh River on the Danubian Lowland. It has approximately 15,500 inhabitants.

Sereď was a labor and transit camp built during World War II in the Slovak Republic. It was founded as a labor camp for the Jewish population in September 1941. In September 1944, it was taken over by units of the SS.

Šintava (Hungarian: Sempte) is a village and municipality in Galanta District of the Trnava Region of south-west Slovakia.
