Norton Mandeville is a village and former civil parish, now in the parish of High Ongar, in of the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. The settlement is at the north of the parish, and less than 1 mile north from the A414 Harlow to Chelmsford road. In 1961 the civil parish had a population of 187. On the 1 April 1986 the civil parish was merged with High Ongar.Norton Mandeville has an Anglican parish church dedicated to All Saints.

The village is situated on the B184 road, and approximately 3 miles (5 km) north-east of Chipping Ongar, 7 miles (11 km) east of Harlow and 8 miles (13 km) west of Chelmsford. The River Roding flows south through the village. Fyfield Mill is 180 yards (165 m) below Willingale Road at the south of the village. The watermill, which sits at the head of a mill pond on the River Roding, dates to the late 13th century and is a Grade II listed building.Fyfield Hall on Willingale Road is the oldest inhabited timber-framed building in England. The house dates chiefly to the mid–13th century, contains an aisled hall dated 1140, and is Grade I listed.

High Ongar is a village and civil parish in the County of Essex, England. It is located a mile (1½ km) north-east of Chipping Ongar, 8 miles (13 km) west of Chelmsford and 6 miles (10 km) north-west of Brentwood. The village of High Ongar has existed since the beginning of the 17th century, although in the Middle Ages, it was probably no more than a tiny hamlet. The oldest surviving house in the village is the timber-framed and weather-boarded building immediately east of the church, known as Post Office Cottages. This dates from the late 16th or early 17th century and may have been built as the rectory. Part of it was at one time used as a "lock-up". The most prominent building within High Ongar's Conservation Area is the parish church of St. Mary the Virgin, which is listed as Grade I. The church dates from the mid-12th century although it was extended and restored in the 19th century. Thomas Chase, former Lord Chancellor of Ireland, Master of Balliol College and Chancellor of Oxford (died 1449) spent his last years as vicar here.Other listed buildings in the area include: High Ongar Primary School (1871); the Forrester's Arms (late 18th century); the Cucina Italiana (opened in September 2014) formerly The Red Lion (mid-17th century); Sanuk Thai restaurant (mid-17th century) formerly the Rectory built in 1767 by Edward Earle; and Nos.1, 2 and 3 Blacksmiths' cottages (late 17th century).

Norton Heath is a hamlet in the High Ongar civil parish, and the Epping Forest District of Essex, England. The settlement is at the northeast of the parish and on the north side of the Harlow to Chelmsford A414 road.

Birds Green is a hamlet in the civil parish of Abbess, Beauchamp and Berners Roding and the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. The hamlet is within The Rodings group of civil parishes, and is 9 miles (14 km) west from the county town of Chelmsford. The village of Beauchamp Roding is less than 1 mile (1.6 km) to the north, and Fyfield 1.5 miles (2.4 km) to the south. The River Roding flows through Birds Green, and feeds three lakes for angling at the northeast of the hamlet.

Willingale is a village and civil parish in the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. The civil parish also includes the village of Shellow Bowells and the hamlet of Miller's Green. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 501. Willingale has two churches in one churchyard: one dedicated to St Christopher; the other to St Andrew. The civil parish of Willingale was created on 1 April 1946 from the parishes of Shellow Bowells, Willingale Doe and Willingale Spain. Willingale Doe and Spain were recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Ulinghehala/Willing(h)ehala.Richard Wiseman (1632 - 1712), landowner and member of parliament was born in the village. Clopton Havers (24 February 1657 – April 1702) was an English physician who did pioneering research on the microstructure of bone. He is believed to have been the first person to observe and almost certainly the first to describe what are now called Haversian canals and Sharpey's fibres. Havers married Dorcas Fuller, daughter of Thomas Fuller, the Rector of Willingale, Essex. Havers died in Willingale in 1702 and was buried at Willingale Doe, Essex. His funeral sermon, dedicated to his widow, was preached by Lilly Butler, minister of St Mary Aldermanbury in London, and was later printed in quarto.

Shelley is a partly rural village and partly residential conurbation in the Ongar civil parish of the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. The former civil parish of Shelley focused on the parish church and the manor house of Shelley Hall at the north of the parish, and was bounded at the north by the civil parish of Moreton, the south by the A414 Harlow to Chelmsford Road, the east by the B184 road from Chipping Ongar to Great Dunmow, and the west by the southeast-to-northwest Moreton Road which edges Shelley Common with its Roding tributary of Cripsey Brook.The village church is just west off the B184 Fyfield road, and 900 yards (800 m) north, separated by farm and fields, from the conurbated southern area of Shelley contiguous with the small market town of Chipping Ongar. Shelley is 9 miles (14 km) west from the county town of Chelmsford.
