Norton Mandeville

Royal Air Force Chipping Ongar or more simply RAF Chipping Ongar is a former Royal Air Force station located 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of Chipping Ongar; about 20 miles (32 km) northeast of London. Opened in 1943, it was used by both the Royal Air Force (RAF) and United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). During the war it was used primarily as a bomber airfield. After the war it was closed in 1959 after many years of being a reserve airfield. Today the remains of the airfield are located on private property being used as agricultural fields.

King Street is a hamlet in the High Ongar civil parish of the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. The hamlet, a linear development along the road of King Street, is 300 yards (274 m) south from the A414 Harlow to Chelmsford road. King Street is 1.5 miles (2 km) east from the parish village of High Ongar, and less than 1 mile north from the hamlet of Nine Ashes. The county town of Chelmsford is 8 miles (13 km) to the east.

High Ongar is a village and civil parish in the County of Essex, England. It is located a mile (1½ km) north-east of Chipping Ongar, 8 miles (13 km) west of Chelmsford and 6 miles (10 km) north-west of Brentwood. The village of High Ongar has existed since the beginning of the 17th century, although in the Middle Ages, it was probably no more than a tiny hamlet. The oldest surviving house in the village is the timber-framed and weather-boarded building immediately east of the church, known as Post Office Cottages. This dates from the late 16th or early 17th century and may have been built as the rectory. Part of it was at one time used as a "lock-up". The most prominent building within High Ongar's Conservation Area is the parish church of St. Mary the Virgin, which is listed as Grade I. The church dates from the mid-12th century although it was extended and restored in the 19th century. Thomas Chase, former Lord Chancellor of Ireland, Master of Balliol College and Chancellor of Oxford (died 1449) spent his last years as vicar here.Other listed buildings in the area include: High Ongar Primary School (1871); the Forrester's Arms (late 18th century); the Cucina Italiana (opened in September 2014) formerly The Red Lion (mid-17th century); Sanuk Thai restaurant (mid-17th century) formerly the Rectory built in 1767 by Edward Earle; and Nos.1, 2 and 3 Blacksmiths' cottages (late 17th century).

Fyfield is a village and civil parish in the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. The village is situated on the B184 road, and approximately 3 miles (5 km) north-east of Chipping Ongar, 7 miles (11 km) east of Harlow and 8 miles (13 km) west of Chelmsford. The River Roding flows south through the village. Fyfield Mill is 180 yards (165 m) below Willingale Road at the south of the village. The watermill, which sits at the head of a mill pond on the River Roding, dates to the late 13th century and is a Grade II listed building.Fyfield Hall on Willingale Road is the oldest inhabited timber-framed building in England. The house dates chiefly to the mid–13th century, contains an aisled hall dated 1140, and is Grade I listed.

Nine Ashes is a hamlet in the High Ongar civil parish of the Epping Forest District of Essex, England. The hamlet, a linear development along Nine Ashes Road, is less than 1 mile south from the Harlow to Chelmsford A414 road. Nearby settlements including the village of Norton Heath and the hamlet of King Street.

St Andrew's Church is a redundant Anglican church in the village of Willingale, Essex, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. The church stands less than 50 yards (46 m) from the adjacent church of St Christopher, and shares its churchyard.

Shelley is a partly rural village and partly residential conurbation in the Ongar civil parish of the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. The former civil parish of Shelley focused on the parish church and the manor house of Shelley Hall at the north of the parish, and was bounded at the north by the civil parish of Moreton, the south by the A414 Harlow to Chelmsford Road, the east by the B184 road from Chipping Ongar to Great Dunmow, and the west by the southeast-to-northwest Moreton Road which edges Shelley Common with its Roding tributary of Cripsey Brook.The village church is just west off the B184 Fyfield road, and 900 yards (800 m) north, separated by farm and fields, from the conurbated southern area of Shelley contiguous with the small market town of Chipping Ongar. Shelley is 9 miles (14 km) west from the county town of Chelmsford.

The Ongar Academy is a mixed comprehensive secondary school, on Fyfield Road in Shelley, in the Ongar civil parish of Essex, England.

Stondon Massey is a village and civil parish in the Brentwood district of Essex, England. The village is to the north of Brentwood, between Blackmore and Doddinghurst. Stondon Massey hosts an annual fete on the village green. In 2006 the village was named Winner of Group 4 Best Kept Village in Essex competition.

Ongar Castle, or Chipping Ongar Castle, is a late 11th- or early 12th-century motte and bailey castle in Chipping Ongar, Essex. Only the earthworks and a single block of masonry survives today.
