King Street is 1.5 miles (2 km) east from the parish village of High Ongar, and less than 1 mile north from the hamlet of Nine Ashes. The county town of Chelmsford is 8 miles (13 km) to the east.

Blackmore Priory was a priory in Essex, England. It was established as an Augustinian Priory with a Prior and twelve Canons, who were not monks but ordained priests. They would be expected to work in the parish as well as lead a monastic life in the Priory. The buildings were begun in the second half of the 12th century. Some of the original architecture can still be seen in what is now the Parish Church of St Laurence, notably the door between the [later] bell tower and the nave, which was once the main entrance. The Priory's heyday was around the end of the fourteenth century when a single roof was placed over the nave and aisles. The timber bell tower dates from 1400. Henry VIII was a frequent visitor to Jericho House, so must have known the Priory well. But in the 1520s, Henry, with Cardinal Wolsey, was responsible for the demise of the monastery, which eventually passed into secular hands and was largely demolished.

Royal Air Force Chipping Ongar or more simply RAF Chipping Ongar is a former Royal Air Force station located 2 miles (3.2 km) northeast of Chipping Ongar; about 20 miles (32 km) northeast of London. Opened in 1943, it was used by both the Royal Air Force (RAF) and United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). During the war it was used primarily as a bomber airfield. After the war it was closed in 1959 after many years of being a reserve airfield. Today the remains of the airfield are located on private property being used as agricultural fields.

The settlement is at the north of the parish, and less than 1 mile north from the A414 Harlow to Chelmsford road. In 1961 the civil parish had a population of 187. Shellow Bowells (or occasionally misspelt as Shellow Bowels) is a village and former civil parish in the Epping Forest District of Essex, England. It is situated 6 miles (10 km) to the west of Chelmsford, between the villages of Willingale on its westerly border and Roxwell on its east. In 1931 the civil parish had a population of 95.Since 1946 the village has been part of the civil parish of Willingale. The village name is believed to be derived from Shellow, meaning a bend in the river, and the Beaulieu family. The village church, dedicated to St Peter and St Paul, is no longer in use as such, having become a private dwelling. Shellow Bowells is mentioned by Bill Bryson in Notes From A Small Island and Paul Theroux's The Kingdom By The Sea. It is referred to as Shallow Bowells in Part Five of Random Harvest by James Hilton.

Willingale is a village and civil parish in the Epping Forest district of Essex, England. The civil parish also includes the village of Shellow Bowells and the hamlet of Miller's Green. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 501. Willingale has two churches in one churchyard: one dedicated to St Christopher; the other to St Andrew. The civil parish of Willingale was created on 1 April 1946 from the parishes of Shellow Bowells, Willingale Doe and Willingale Spain. Willingale Doe and Spain were recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Ulinghehala/Willing(h)ehala.Richard Wiseman (1632 - 1712), landowner and member of parliament was born in the village. Clopton Havers (24 February 1657 – April 1702) was an English physician who did pioneering research on the microstructure of bone. He is believed to have been the first person to observe and almost certainly the first to describe what are now called Haversian canals and Sharpey's fibres. Havers married Dorcas Fuller, daughter of Thomas Fuller, the Rector of Willingale, Essex. Havers died in Willingale in 1702 and was buried at Willingale Doe, Essex. His funeral sermon, dedicated to his widow, was preached by Lilly Butler, minister of St Mary Aldermanbury in London, and was later printed in quarto.

Blackmore, Hook End and Wyatts Green is a civil parish in the Brentwood borough of Essex, England. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 3,082, reducing slightly to 3,040 at the 2011 census.

Stondon Massey is a village and civil parish in the Brentwood district of Essex, England. The village is to the north of Brentwood, between Blackmore and Doddinghurst. Stondon Massey hosts an annual fete on the village green. In 2006 the village was named Winner of Group 4 Best Kept Village in Essex competition.
