Scropton Tramway

Scropton railway station was a short-lived railway station in Derbyshire, England. The railway line between Uttoxeter and Burton-on-Trent was opened by the North Staffordshire Railway (NSR) in 1848 and a station to serve the village of Scropton was opened at about the same time (the actual date is imprecise but the station was mentioned in timetables issued in 1849–50).The station remained open only for a short time before being closed at the beginning of 1866. After closure the station site was used for exchange sidings between the narrow gauge Scropton Tramway and the NSR.

The population of the civil parish at the 2001 Census was 728 increasing to 854 at the 2011 Census.The Domesday book records that in 1086 Henry de Ferrers held a manor here.The Church of England parish church of Saint Paul, Scropton contains late 15th and early 16th century monuments. However, the church was rebuilt in 1855–56 under the direction of the Gothic Revival architect Benjamin Ferrey. The village of Scropton has no shop or pub but it does have a large house called the old school house.

Foston is a hamlet in the Foston and Scropton civil parish of South Derbyshire, Derbyshire, England, about 12 miles (19 km) west of Derby and 8 miles (13 km) east of Uttoxeter. The Domesday Book of 1086 lists it as Farulveston.

Royal Air Force Church Broughton or more simply RAF Church Broughton is a former Royal Air Force satellite airfield located near Church Broughton, Derbyshire, England.

The RAF Fauld explosion was a military accident which occurred at 11:11 am on Monday, 27 November 1944 at the RAF Fauld underground munitions storage depot in Staffordshire, England. It was one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history and the largest on UK soil. Between 3,500 and 4,000 tonnes (3,900 and 4,400 tons) of ordnance exploded, mostly high explosives. The explosion crater has a depth of 100 feet (30 m) and a maximum width of 1007 feet (307 m) although different sources have exaggerated this size. The crater is still visible just south of Fauld, to the east of Hanbury, Staffordshire. It is now known as the Hanbury Crater.A nearby reservoir containing 450,000 cubic metres (16,000,000 cu ft) of water was obliterated in the incident, along with several buildings including a complete farm. Flooding caused by the destruction of the reservoir added to the damage caused by the explosion.The exact death toll is uncertain; it is believed that about 70 people died in the explosion and resulting flood.
