Hanbury, Staffordshire

The RAF Fauld explosion was a military accident which occurred at 11:11 am on Monday, 27 November 1944 at the RAF Fauld underground munitions storage depot in Staffordshire, England. It was one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history and the largest on UK soil. Between 3,500 and 4,000 tonnes (3,900 and 4,400 tons) of ordnance exploded, mostly high explosives. The explosion crater has a depth of 100 feet (30 m) and a maximum width of 1007 feet (307 m) although different sources have exaggerated this size. The crater is still visible just south of Fauld, to the east of Hanbury, Staffordshire. It is now known as the Hanbury Crater.A nearby reservoir containing 450,000 cubic metres (16,000,000 cu ft) of water was obliterated in the incident, along with several buildings including a complete farm. Flooding caused by the destruction of the reservoir added to the damage caused by the explosion.The exact death toll is uncertain; it is believed that about 70 people died in the explosion and resulting flood.

Draycott in the Clay is a village and civil parish within the English county of Staffordshire.

Sudbury railway station was a railway station serving Sudbury, Derbyshire although the station was located in Staffordshire, near to Draycott in the Clay. The station was opened by the North Staffordshire Railway in 1848 and in 1862 it was also served by Great Northern Railway on the route between Stafford and Grantham. The platforms today have been removed but the railway cottages and signal box are still in use, Trains on the Crewe to Derby Line still pass through the former station.

RAF Tatenhill is a former Royal Air Force satellite airfield in Tatenhill, Staffordshire, England, 4 NM (7.4 km; 4.6 mi) west of Burton on Trent. It was originally known as RAF Crossplains.

Scropton railway station was a short-lived railway station in Derbyshire, England. The railway line between Uttoxeter and Burton-on-Trent was opened by the North Staffordshire Railway (NSR) in 1848 and a station to serve the village of Scropton was opened at about the same time (the actual date is imprecise but the station was mentioned in timetables issued in 1849–50).The station remained open only for a short time before being closed at the beginning of 1866. After closure the station site was used for exchange sidings between the narrow gauge Scropton Tramway and the NSR.

Aston is a hamlet in the civil parish of Sudbury in the district of Derbyshire Dales, Derbyshire, England. It lies at the junction of the A50 and A515 roads. Aston was mentioned in the Domesday Book as Estun.Aston Bridge carries the A515 road across the River Dove to Staffordshire. It is a Grade II listed building.

The Scropton Tramway was a British industrial 3 ft (914 mm) narrow gauge railway connecting several gypsum mines with the North Staffordshire Railway station at Scropton in Staffordshire. It was also used to transport munitions during World War II.

Foston and Scropton is a civil parish in the Dove valley in South Derbyshire. It includes the village of Scropton and hamlet of Foston. The population of the civil parish at the 2001 Census was 728 increasing to 854 at the 2011 Census.The Domesday book records that in 1086 Henry de Ferrers held a manor here.The Church of England parish church of Saint Paul, Scropton contains late 15th and early 16th century monuments. However, the church was rebuilt in 1855–56 under the direction of the Gothic Revival architect Benjamin Ferrey. The village of Scropton has no shop or pub but it does have a large house called the old school house.

Tatenhill Airfield (ICAO: EGBM) is a licensed airfield operated by Tatenhill Aviation Ltd. Its CAA Ordinary Licence (Number P813) allows flights for the public transport of passengers and for flying instruction as authorised by the licensee, Tatenhill Aviation. The three runways are paved, but one is no longer operational, and a second is used only occasionally. Running east–west, the main runway is the longest. The airfield is part of the Needwood Survey, a 3000 hectare (12 sq miles) estate held by the Duchy of Lancaster in the area of the former Needwood Forest. The airfield lies 6 miles west of Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England, and is 11 miles south-west of Derby Airfield (a grass airfield with a flying school).

HM Prison Foston Hall is a women's closed category prison and Young Offenders Institution, located in the village of Foston in Derbyshire, England. The prison is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service.

St George's Park (SGP) is the English Football Association's national football centre (NFC) built on a 330-acre (130 ha) site at Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire. The centre was officially opened by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on 9 October 2012.The purpose of the centre is to be the base for all coaching and development work undertaken by the FA, and to be the training and preparation ground for all 28 of the England national football teams at the same time, including disability, futsal and those who compete in UEFA and FIFA competitions such as: Men's Senior, U-21, U-20, U-19 and U-17. Women's Senior, U-21, U-19 and U-17.

Byrkley Lodge was a country house and later racing horse stud farm, located close to Burton on Trent, Staffordshire. Demolished in 1953, its former grounds are today the site of the St George's Park National Football Centre.
