The Battle of Schwechat was a battle in the Hungarian war of Independence of 1848-1849, fought on 30 October 1848 between the revolutionary Hungarian Army led by Lieutenant General János Móga against the army of the Austrian Empire led by Lieutenant General Josip Jelačić, at Schwechat, near Vienna. This was the last battle of 1848 in the Transdanubian campaign. The Hungarian Army wanted to relieve the revolutionaries from Vienna, besieged by the Austrian imperial army, but they were defeated. Vienna fell on the next day.

Schwechat (German pronunciation: [ˈʃvɛçaːt] ) is a city southeast of Vienna known for the Vienna International Airport and Schwechater beer. The city is home to the refineries of the Austrian national oil company OMV.

The Liesing, also known as the Liesingbach, is a 30-kilometre-long (19 mi) river, a tributary of the Schwechat, which rises in the Vienna Woods, then flows through the city of Vienna (where the stream gives its name to Liesing, the 23rd district of Vienna) and joins the Schwechat in Lower Austria near the city of Schwechat.

Rudolf-Tonn-Stadion, (Schwechat-Rannerdorf) is a multi-use-stadium in Rannersdorf, a city subdivision of Schwechat, Austria. The stadium seats 7000 with additional room for standing spectators around the playing field.

For a long time, it was not necessary to build a Harbour in Vienna, because the existing natural landing points were sufficient for the level of trade on the Danube. It was only when steamships began to arrive in great numbers that a harbour offering safe berths became essential. Even then however, goods were for the most part loaded and unloaded at an unenclosed river harbour that was established at the end of the 19th century.

Pietro Nobile was an Austro-Hungarian Neoclassicist architect and builder born in Campestro (Capriasca), Switzerland, 11 November 1774 – Vienna, Austria, 7 November 1854. He is regarded as one of the most prominent architects of the late classicism in Vienna, and the leading architect of the Habsburg court. His father moved the family to Trieste where the young Pietro attended school. He continued to be educated in Rome by Antonio Canova between 1801 and 1806.In 1807, he was appointed engineer office for construction in charge of Trieste, Istria, Aquileia and Gorizia. In 1810, he was officially appointed chief engineer for construction of bridges and roads in the Illyrian coast in Istria. He designed the coastal road from Koper to Pula, made new plans, sketches and drawings of monuments such as the Pula Arena, the Temple of Augustus and the Arch of the Sergii. He also designed St. Peter's Church standing on Tartini Square in Piran, Slovenia and Sant'Antonio Taumaturgo, Trieste. For the protection of monuments in Pula he did more than anyone else before him. In 1819, he became head of the department of architecture at the Vienna Academy. His grave is located in Vienna's Zentralfriedhof (section 14 A, No. 46 A), transferred from St. Marx Cemetery. In 1894, Vienna Penzing (14th District) and Rudolf Fünfhaus (15th District), and the Nobilegasse were named after him.

Neugebäude Palace (German: Schloss Neugebäude) is a large Mannerist castle complex in the Simmering district of Vienna, Austria. It was built from 1569 onwards, at the behest of the Habsburg Emperor Maximilian II. The site of the palace is said to be where the Ottoman Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent's tent was erected during the 1529 Siege of Vienna. The palace was apparently modeled after it.It fell into disuse already in the 17th century and today stands in ruins. Protected as a historical monument since the 1970s, there are various efforts to restore the site.In 1922, Clemens Holzmeister's architectural designs for Austria's first crematorium placed Feuerhalle Simmering into the walled gardens of the derelict Schloss Neugebäude, thus putting the former palace gardens with its many ancient trees (designated natural monuments) to new use as urn burial ground.

The Vienna Central Cemetery (German: Wiener Zentralfriedhof) is one of the largest cemeteries in the world by number of interred, and is the most well-known cemetery among Vienna's nearly 50 cemeteries. The cemetery's name is descriptive of its significance as Vienna's biggest cemetery, not of its geographic location, as it is not in the city center of the Austrian capital, but on the southern outskirts, in the outer city district of Simmering.

Feuerhalle Simmering is a crematorium with attached urn burial ground in the Simmering district of Vienna, Austria. It lies at the end of an alley, directly opposite Vienna Central Cemetery's main gate.

St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery Church (German: Friedhofskirche zum heiligen Karl Borromäus) is a Roman Catholic church in the Vienna Central Cemetery in the 11th district, Simmering. It was constructed from 1908 to 1911 to designs by the architect Max Hegele. The church is a listed building. The church is dedicated to Saint Charles Borromeo, archbishop of Milan from 1564 to 1584 and a cardinal.

Zwölfaxing is a municipality in the district of Bruck an der Leitha in the Austrian state of Lower Austria.

The Vienna Watersports Arena is an artificial whitewater venue for canoe and kayak slalom competition in Vienna, Austria, the only such facility in Austria. It also serves as a family water park, with guided raft trips and practice times for individual boaters. Located across the Danube from the city, on Danube Island, it pumps its water from the New Danube river channel. It opened in August 2013; the following June it hosted the 2014 European Canoe Slalom Championships.
