Huntingdale is a southeastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia. It is part of the City of Gosnells local government area, which suggested the name of the suburb in 1974 as it was used by local developers as a promotional name. It is largely a residential suburb with associated schools and small businesses, mainly existing to service local residents. Homes in the area include a section of older residences constructed mainly in the 1970s, while there was significant new development from the 1990s onward in the southern portion of Huntingdale. There are some remaining pockets of semi-rural land comprising remnants of horticultural and chicken-farming enterprises, but in the early 2000s these were fast being taken over for new residential developments.

Thornlie Senior High School is an independent public co-educational high day school in the City of Gosnells, located off Ovens Road in the Perth suburb of Thornlie, Western Australia. The school was established in 1971 and caters for students from Years 7 to Year 12. It is located in the Canning educational district and has had enrolments as high as 1200 students.The school caters for students in years 7 to 12. The school offers a specialist Rugby program. As well as preparing students for university—the school includes a comprehensive vocational education and training pathway for students in years 11 and 12. In 2013, Prime Minister Julia Gillard held Community Cabinet at the high school. The event was booked out, and a small group of animal rights activists held a peaceful protest outside the event.Enrolments at the school have been relatively stable with around 1100 students. However—between 2009–2013—student numbers dropped below 1000 due to changes in enrolment ages.

Thornlie is a large residential suburb of Perth, the capital city of Western Australia, located 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south-east of the city's central business district. It is a part of the City of Gosnells local government area. The Canning River runs through the northern side of the suburb. Since the 1950s the suburb has developed in approximately five stages; north-east Thornlie (1950s–60s), south Thornlie (1970s–80s), Crestwood (1970s), Castle Glen (1980s) and Forest Lakes (1980s to present).

Southern River is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Gosnells. It was originally a rural area with farms for egg production, horse breeding properties and boarding kennels for cats and dogs. These farms combined gave the area a population of less than 500 people. The current environment is just undergoing major changes; plans for the next 5 years will see the suburb totally redeveloped into medium-density residential properties with an average block size of 700 m2 (7,500 sq ft). The result will be a population increase to above 15,000; along with this will be the building of all the necessary infrastructure like shops, schools, parks and gardens. The region bounded by Ranford Road, Passmore Street, Matison Street and Holmes Road, is likely to retain its special status and unique lifestyle for the foreseeable future. Most residents are deeply involved in either greyhound racing or the breeding showing and trialling of pedigree dogs and/or cats. Several boarding catteries and kennels are found in the area, servicing a large proportion of the Perth metropolitan area.

Nicholson Road railway station is an under construction station on the Thornlie–Cockburn Link in Perth, Western Australia as part of Metronet. The station will include a bus interchange with 7 stands and 1,000 car parking spaces. The station will be at-grade, with pedestrian and bicycle access from a new shared path along Canna Drive or via the Nicholson Road underpass, and vehicle and bus access from Tulloch Way and Panama Street. Approximately 2,350 daily boardings are predicted at Nicholson Road railway station in 2031. Services to Perth and Cockburn Central will be provided by Transperth Trains, with the journey to Perth to take approximately 26 minutes. It is 28 minutes to Perth via the Mandurah line.

Canning Vale College is a public co-educational high day school in the City of Gosnells, located in Canning Vale, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia.

Empire Ballpark is a baseball stadium in Perth, Australia. It was built in 2004, with a seating capacity of 1500 and standing room for a further 2500. This is the first baseball-exclusive stadium in Perth since the demolition of Parry Field in the mid-1990s. Baseball Park was the venue of the 2007 Claxton Shield, which ran from 19 to 27 January 2007. The facility was known as Barbagallo Ballpark between mid 2010 and mid 2015, until Perth Harley-Davidson purchased the naming rights to the Stadium in 2017 for a 3-year deal. In December of 2020, the Perth Heat announced a naming rights deal with Empire Capital Partners for the then upcoming 2020/21 Australian Baseball League season.

Thornlie is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia. It is located in Perth's southeastern suburbs, and is named after the suburb of Thornlie. Thornlie was first created for the 1989 state election. It was abolished in a redistribution prior to the 2005 election, but was recreated for the 2017 election to replace the abolished seat of Gosnells. When Thornlie recreated it had a notional 1.8-point majority for the Labor Party (based on the results of the 2013 election), and was considered a marginal seat.

The Division of Burt is an Australian electoral division in Perth in the state of Western Australia. Burt contains Perth's growing southeastern suburban corridor and covers 190 square kilometers. Major suburbs include Armadale, Gosnells, Thornlie, Kenwick, Huntingdale, Harrisdale, Piara Waters and Southern River. Burt is a middle- and working-class electorate with a high rate of Trade Union membership.The current and inaugural MP is Matt Keogh, a member of the Australian Labor Party. He has held the seat since its inception in 2016.

Southern River College is an independent public co-educational high day school in the City of Gosnells, located on Southern River Road in Gosnells, a suburb of Perth, Western Australia. The school was established in 1976 as Gosnells Senior High School (renamed in 2003) and has an attendance of approximately 900 students from Year 7 to Year 12. It became an Independent Public School in 2015. The catchment area for the school is Gosnells, Huntingdale and Southern River. Feeder schools include Gosnells, Ashburton Drive, Seaforth, Huntingdale, Wirrabirra and Southern River Primary Schools.

Canning Vale is a southern suburb of Perth, 22 km (13.7 mi) from the central business district. Its local government areas are the City of Canning (west of Nicholson Road) and the City of Gosnells (east of Nicholson Road).

Harrisdale is a southeastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia and is one of the western suburbs of the City of Armadale. It was gazetted in 2007, and has a population of 9,076 as of the 2016 Australian census. The population of the developing area is expected to grow to over 10,000 by 2031.On 12 April 2008, a joint venture was announced between the Government of Western Australia and Cedar Woods Properties Limited to develop a 30-hectare (74-acre) site in the northwest of the suburb of Harrisdale with an emphasis on affordable housing and sustainable living. The development, known as Harrisdale Green, commenced construction in July 2010 and will accommodate up to 500 homes.The suburb is bounded by Warton Road to the northwest, Ranford Road to the northeast, Skeet Road to the southeast and Nicholson Road to the southwest.Carey Baptist College is a co-educational school that occupies a 12-hectare (30-acre) site in Harrisdale. It was established by the Carey Community Baptist Church in 1998 and provides education from kindergarten through to Year 12.Harrisdale Senior High School is a public high school in Harrisdale that opened in 2017. The Harrisdale Swamp Bushland occupies a significant portion of the suburb's west. It is a banksia woodland dominated by Banksia attenuata and Banksia menziesii. The mammal species Quenda occurs in this area.
