Broad Cove, Maine

Sunset Point is a promontory in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. It is located 2.65 miles (4.26 km) south of Yarmouth Village and looks out into inner Casco Bay, marking the eastern side of Broad Cove. Sunset Road leads to the point itself. It begins at an intersection with Princes Point Road, Battery Point Lane and Nubbin Reach. In the early 1880s, the adjacent (to the east) Princes Point began to develop as a summer colony. For several years it had become a favorite camping spot for the villagers and the inhabitants of the inland parts of the town who came here for clam bakes and picnics. The town road ended at the John Allen Drinkwater barn, and here a large gate opened into the pasture which included the two points.Around 1884, the first to person to own a lot on at Sunset Point was Samuel O. Carruthers.

Duck Cove is a cove in Cumberland, Maine, United States. It is part of the larger Broad Cove, which sits between Sunset Point, at the southern end of Yarmouth, and the eastern edge of Cumberland Foreside. State Route 88 (formerly the Atlantic Highway) runs beside the cove (as Foreside Road south of the Yarmouth line and Lafayette Street beyond it). Duck Farm, owned by Walter Gendall, a captain in both King Phillip's War and King William's War, incorporated Duck Cove. The dry-stone boundary wall on its western and northern sides is still intact. This land is now partly traversed by a connecting trail system as part of an easement arranged by Chebeague & Cumberland Land Trust with local property owners.

They were both relatives of poet Elizabeth Oakes Smith. The point was part of an estate purchased by the Prince family in 1680.When Yarmouth residents voted to secede from North Yarmouth in the mid-19th century, Princes Point residents were against the plan. As historian Alan M. Hall noted: "Coastal farms, such as the Nicholas Drinkwater homestead on Princes Point [Road], were often perched on more ledges than topsoil, a fact that nudged many Drinkwaters into a life at sea."In the early 1880s, Princes Point began to develop as a summer colony. The Ephraim Sturdivant House (also known as the Janet Low Parker House) is a home in Cumberland Foreside, Maine, United States. Located at 114 Foreside Road, it was built in 1810 as the home of Captain Ephraim Sturdivant, who is credited with naming the town of Cumberland. The home was completed a year after the first of his three marriages. He fathered twenty-one children. Behind the home, on a small hill known as Ephraim's Mount, there once stood twelve pine trees. Known as "the Apostles", they were used for navigational purposes by ship captains arriving into Portland harbor. The last of the trees fell in 1935. The historic section of Foreside Road on which is stands, known as the Sturdivant neighborhood, includes the Gyger House at 70 Foreside Road (dating to the 18th century), 77 Foreside Road (1873) and 74 Foreside Road (1850).

The Gyger House is a historic home in Cumberland Foreside, Maine, United States. Located at 70 Foreside Road (Maine State Route 88), it contains several eras of construction, with the oldest being mid-to-late 18th century, around fifty years before Cumberland's secession from North Yarmouth occurred. Other sections of the home date to the 1860s and 1920s. The historic section of Foreside Road on which is stands, known as the Sturdivant neighborhood, includes the Ephraim Sturdivant House at 114 Foreside Road (completed in 1810), 77 Foreside Road (1873) and 74 Foreside Road (1850).

The Gilman Manse is an historic home at 463 Lafayette Street in Yarmouth, Maine. Built in 1771, making it one of the oldest extant buildings in the town, it was originally the home of Tristram Gilman, the fourth minister of the now-demolished Meetinghouse under the Ledge, which stood around 900 feet (270 m) to the northeast between 1729 and 1836. It succeeded the Cutter House, at 60 Gilman Road, as the parsonage for the church.In 1905, John Calvin Stevens was hired to undertake a renovation of the property. It was the home of Arthur E. Marks (1853–1917) in 1911, and of Merrill and Grace Haskell from 1928.

Ledge Cemetery, also known as the Cemetery under the Ledge, is a historic cemetery in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. Dating to 1770, it stands on Gilman Road, around 450 feet (140 m) southwest of the older and smaller Pioneer Cemetery. Some headstones bear dates earlier than 1770, for many burials — such as that of Revd. Nicholas Loring — were removed from the older cemeteryThe original First Parish Congregational Church, known as the Old Ledge Meetinghouse, stood near the site between 1730 and 1818. Its first pastor was Reverend Ammi Ruhamah Cutter. Tristram Gilman, for whom Gilman Road is named, was the fourth pastor. He served in the role for forty years, and was buried in the Ledge Cemetery upon his death in 1809, aged 73. His wife, Elizabeth Sayer, is buried beside him.Several sea captains are also interred here, including those from the Drinkwater family. Captain Theophilus Drinkwater, son of Allen and Hannah Drinkwater, gave his name to nearby Drinkwater Point Road.Of a settlement that originally contained a school, a tavern and a cemetery, only the cemetery and the ledge doorstep of the church remain.

The Meetinghouse under the Ledge, also known as the Old Ledge Meetinghouse, was a church that stood in present-day Yarmouth, Maine, between 1729 (when the town was North Yarmouth, Province of Massachusetts Bay) and 1836 (sixteen years after Maine's admittance to the Union). It was the ninth church founded in Maine.Named for the ledge that rises to the west of its former location, only the church's eastern doorstep remains, beside today's Garrison Lane.

Pioneer Cemetery, also known as the Pioneers Burial Ground and the Indian Fighters Cemetery, is a historic cemetery in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. Dating to 1731, it was the first public burial place in Old North Yarmouth, which was then part of the Province of Massachusetts Bay. It stands on Gilman Road, around 450 feet (140 m) northeast of the Ledge Cemetery, and almost directly across Gilman Road from the Cutter House, which was completed a year earlier.

Princes Point Road is a prominent street in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. It runs for about 1.93 miles (3.11 km) from Lafayette Street (State Route 88) in the north to Sunset Point Road in the south. It was one of the first streets laid out in the town when it was centered around the Meetinghouse under the Ledge in the 18th century. Gilman Road, another of the early roads in the area, intersects Princes Point Road near its northern end. In the late 19th century, trolleycars of the short-lived Portland and Yarmouth Electric Railway passed Princes Point Road en route to Yarmouth's village center after the town's population had moved away from the Broad Cove area. Yarmouth's West Side Trail crosses Princes Point Road between Gilman Road and Morton Road. The road is named for the Paul Prince (1720–1809), who served for Massachusetts in the American Revolutionary War.

The Cutter House is an historic home at 60 Gilman Road in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. Built in 1730, over a century before today's Yarmouth was incorporated, it is the oldest extant building in the town. It was built for Ammi Ruhamah Cutter, the first minister of the now-demolished Meetinghouse under the Ledge, which stood around 150 yards (140 m) to the west, in the same strip of land between Gilman Road and Lafayette Street (Maine State Route 88), between 1729 and 1836. It stands almost directly across Gilman Road from the Pioneer Cemetery, which was established a year later. The home, the Pioneer Cemetery and the nearby Ledge Cemetery are all that remain of this early settlement.Perez B. Loring lived at the Cutter House in the mid-19th century, after it was no longer a manse. For the second half of the 20th century, it was home to Charles and Anita Stickney, who purchased it from Henry Pennell Frank (1872–1948), who is interred in the Ledge Cemetery. The home is two storeys, 4,595 square feet (426.9 m2), with a hip roof. It has five bedrooms and four bathrooms amongst its fourteen total rooms.

Portland Street is a historic street in Yarmouth, Maine, United States. It runs for about 1.25 miles (2.01 km) from the town's Main Street, State Route 115, in the north to its merge with Middle Road in the south. It is so named because it leads to Portland, the state's largest city, after linking up with State Route 9 in Falmouth, Maine. (Yarmouth's Elm Street, which runs parallel to Portland Street around a half mile to the northwest, was formerly known as the "Portland road", for it was an early route into Portland prior to the Presumpscot River being bridged at Martin's Point in Falmouth Foreside.) Today's Portland Street is bisected near its halfway point by U.S. Route 1. The Beth Condon Memorial Pathway, part of the East Coast Greenway, originates on the western side of the Portland Street and Route 1 intersection. The Central Parish Church has stood opposite the northern end of Portland Street since 1860. It is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
