Ouagadougou ( WAH-gə-DOO-goo, Mossi: [ˈwɔɣədəɣʊ], French: [waɡaduɡu]) is the capital of Burkina Faso and the administrative, communications, cultural, and economic centre of the nation. It is also the country's largest city, with a population of 2,415,266 in 2019. The city's name is often shortened to Ouaga. The inhabitants are called ouagalais. The spelling of the name Ouagadougou is derived from the French orthography common in former French African colonies. Ouagadougou's primary industries are food processing and textiles. It is served by an international airport and is linked by rail to Abidjan in the Ivory Coast and, for freight only, to Kaya. There are several highways linking the city to Niamey, Niger, south to Ghana, and southwest to Ivory Coast. Ouagadougou has one of West Africa's largest markets, which burned down in 2003 and has since reopened with better facilities and improved fire-prevention measures. Other attractions include the National Museum of Burkina Faso, the Moro-Naba Palace (site of the Moro-Naba Ceremony), the National Museum of Music, and several craft markets.

The building that once housed the Association for the Development of African Architecture and Urban Planning (ADAUA) was renovated to accommodate the museum. The building is in Sudanese Sahelian style with dome-shaped roofs. It is in the centre of the city and is easily accessible to the general public. The first collection, put together between September 1998 and March 1999, is constantly growing. Instruments from all families are represented including aerophones, membranophones, idiophones and chordophones. Each object is the only one of its kind and varies from 5 to 200 years in age. The Lycée français Saint Exupéry is a French international school in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. It serves levels maternelle (preschool) through lycée (senior high school). It was established in 1975. The secondary school is in the centre of the city while the primary school is in proximity to the hôtel Indépendance.As of 2016 there are about 125 employees and 1,000 students.

The Confédération Nationale des Travailleurs Burkinabé (trans. National Confederation of Workers of Burkina; CNTB) is a trade union centre in Burkina Faso. It is affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation. CNTB emerged from the Confédération africaine des travailleurs croyants.

Ouagadougou Cathedral, or the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Ouagadougou (French: Cathédrale de l'Immaculée-Conception de Ouagadougou) is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ouagadougou in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. It was built in the 1930s, by apostolic vicar Joanny Thévenoud from the White Fathers, at the time of French North Africa, and was dedicated on 19 January 1936, after a two-year construction. Behind the cathedral, near the carpark, is an altar dedicated to Mary, Ave Maria, with a statue of the Virgin in a carved stone arch.

On 15 January 2016, gunmen armed with heavy weapons attacked the Cappuccino restaurant and the Splendid Hotel in the heart of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. The number of fatalities reached 30, while at least 56 were wounded; a total of 176 hostages were released after a government counter-attack into the next morning as the siege ended. Three perpetrators were also killed. The nearby YIBI hotel was then under siege, where another attacker was killed. Notably, former Swiss MPs Jean-Noël Rey and Georgie Lamon were killed. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and Al-Mourabitoun.

Stade Dr. Issoufou Joseph Conombo is a multi-use stadium in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home of Santos Football Club. The stadium holds 25,000 people.

Nineteen people were killed and 25 others were injured when suspected jihadists opened fire on a Turkish restaurant and hotel in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on 13 August 2017. Police cornered the attackers, who took hostages and then were killed in an ensuing shootout.

The 1987 Burkina Faso coup d'état was a bloody military coup in Burkina Faso, which took place on 15 October 1987. The coup was organized by Captain Blaise Compaoré against incumbent far-left President Captain Thomas Sankara, his former friend and associate during the 1983 upheaval. Compaoré has never acknowledged that a coup has taken place and claims to be a Sankara loyalist.
