2016 Ouagadougou attacks

Nineteen people were killed and 25 others were injured when suspected jihadists opened fire on a Turkish restaurant and hotel in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on 13 August 2017. Police cornered the attackers, who took hostages and then were killed in an ensuing shootout.

Ouagadougou Cathedral, or the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Ouagadougou (French: Cathédrale de l'Immaculée-Conception de Ouagadougou) is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ouagadougou in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. It was built in the 1930s, by apostolic vicar Joanny Thévenoud from the White Fathers, at the time of French North Africa, and was dedicated on 19 January 1936, after a two-year construction. Behind the cathedral, near the carpark, is an altar dedicated to Mary, Ave Maria, with a statue of the Virgin in a carved stone arch.

It was built in the 1960s, and it is approximately 1.5 kilometres (1 mi) southeast of the main commercial area. The site itself is approximately 4.8 kilometres (3.0 mi) in length, 0.5 kilometres (0.31 mi) in width at its narrowest point, and covers an area of approximately 4.26 km2 (1,050 acres). Its runway is 3,000 metres (9,800 ft) long. When the airport was built it was on the southern boundary of the city. Ouagadougou has since experienced rapid urbanization and the airport is now surrounded by urban development.Besides having outgrown its capacity constraints, Ouagadougou Airport is a source of pollution and risk. The government has plans for a new airport 30 km north of the capital.In addition to civilian traffic, the airport has a military sector.Ouagadougou Airport handles about 98% of all scheduled commercial air traffic in Burkina Faso. Air Burkina and Air France handle about 60% of scheduled passenger traffic. Between 2005 and 2011, air passenger traffic at Ouagadougou airport grew at an average annual rate of 7.0%, reaching about 404,726 passengers in 2011 and was estimated to reach 850,000 by 2025. In 2007 it was the 15th busiest airport in West Africa in passenger volume, just ahead of Port Harcourt (Nigeria) and behind Banjul (Gambia). The total air cargo grew 71% from 4,350 tons in 2005 to about 7,448 tons in 2009.

Stade Dr. Issoufou Joseph Conombo is a multi-use stadium in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home of Santos Football Club. The stadium holds 25,000 people.

La Maison du Peuple, Ouagadougou is a building in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The building is 2,500-seat theatre that opened in 1965 and is still used for concerts and events. It is considered an important example of modernist architecture. The World Monuments Fund named the building as one of the most threatened buildings of 2022.

The building that once housed the Association for the Development of African Architecture and Urban Planning (ADAUA) was renovated to accommodate the museum. The building is in Sudanese Sahelian style with dome-shaped roofs. It is in the centre of the city and is easily accessible to the general public. The first collection, put together between September 1998 and March 1999, is constantly growing. Instruments from all families are represented including aerophones, membranophones, idiophones and chordophones. Each object is the only one of its kind and varies from 5 to 200 years in age. The museum is headed by the curator, Parfait Z. Bambara
