The Metropolitan Archdiocese of Ouagadougou (Latin: Archidioecesis Metropolitanae Uagaduguensis) is the Metropolitan See for the Ecclesiastical province of Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso.

Ouagadougou Cathedral, or the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of Ouagadougou (French: Cathédrale de l'Immaculée-Conception de Ouagadougou) is the cathedral of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ouagadougou in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. It was built in the 1930s, by apostolic vicar Joanny Thévenoud from the White Fathers, at the time of French North Africa, and was dedicated on 19 January 1936, after a two-year construction. Behind the cathedral, near the carpark, is an altar dedicated to Mary, Ave Maria, with a statue of the Virgin in a carved stone arch.

The Lycée français Saint Exupéry is a French international school in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. It serves levels maternelle (preschool) through lycée (senior high school). It was established in 1975. The secondary school is in the centre of the city while the primary school is in proximity to the hôtel Indépendance.As of 2016 there are about 125 employees and 1,000 students.

The 1987 Burkina Faso coup d'état was a bloody military coup in Burkina Faso, which took place on 15 October 1987. The coup was organized by Captain Blaise Compaoré against incumbent far-left President Captain Thomas Sankara, his former friend and associate during the 1983 upheaval. Compaoré has never acknowledged that a coup has taken place and claims to be a Sankara loyalist.

Ouagadougou ( WAH-gə-DOO-goo, Mossi: [ˈwɔɣədəɣʊ], French: [waɡaduɡu]) is the capital of Burkina Faso and the administrative, communications, cultural, and economic centre of the nation. It is also the country's largest city, with a population of 2,415,266 in 2019. The city's name is often shortened to Ouaga. The inhabitants are called ouagalais. The spelling of the name Ouagadougou is derived from the French orthography common in former French African colonies. Ouagadougou's primary industries are food processing and textiles. It is served by an international airport and is linked by rail to Abidjan in the Ivory Coast and, for freight only, to Kaya. There are several highways linking the city to Niamey, Niger, south to Ghana, and southwest to Ivory Coast. Ouagadougou has one of West Africa's largest markets, which burned down in 2003 and has since reopened with better facilities and improved fire-prevention measures. Other attractions include the National Museum of Burkina Faso, the Moro-Naba Palace (site of the Moro-Naba Ceremony), the National Museum of Music, and several craft markets.

On 15 January 2016, gunmen armed with heavy weapons attacked the Cappuccino restaurant and the Splendid Hotel in the heart of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. The number of fatalities reached 30, while at least 56 were wounded; a total of 176 hostages were released after a government counter-attack into the next morning as the siege ended. Three perpetrators were also killed. The nearby YIBI hotel was then under siege, where another attacker was killed. Notably, former Swiss MPs Jean-Noël Rey and Georgie Lamon were killed. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) and Al-Mourabitoun.

The 2009 West Africa floods are a natural disaster that began in June 2009 as a consequence of exceptionally heavy seasonal rainfall in large areas of West Africa. Several rivers, including the Pendjari, Niger, Volta and Senegal rivers, broke their banks, causing destruction of houses, bridges, roads and crops. The floods are reported to have affected 940,000 people across 12 countries, including Burkina Faso, Benin, Ghana, Niger, Senegal, Guinea, and caused the deaths of at least 193 people. In Burkina Faso, one of the most affected countries, 150,000 people fled their homes, mostly in the capital Ouagadougou where rainfall in one day was equal to 25% of normal annual rainfall for the whole country.

Nineteen people were killed and 25 others were injured when suspected jihadists opened fire on a Turkish restaurant and hotel in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on 13 August 2017. Police cornered the attackers, who took hostages and then were killed in an ensuing shootout.

The Confédération Nationale des Travailleurs Burkinabé (trans. National Confederation of Workers of Burkina; CNTB) is a trade union centre in Burkina Faso. It is affiliated with the International Trade Union Confederation. CNTB emerged from the Confédération africaine des travailleurs croyants.

La Maison du Peuple, Ouagadougou is a building in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The building is 2,500-seat theatre that opened in 1965 and is still used for concerts and events. It is considered an important example of modernist architecture. The World Monuments Fund named the building as one of the most threatened buildings of 2022.

The Chinese Ambassador to Burkina Faso is the official representative of the People's Republic of China (PRC) to Burkina Faso. In the past, Burkina Faso has alternated between recognizing the PRC and the Republic of China (ROC) as the legitimate government of China.

Ouagadougou (formerly Kadiogo Department) is a department or commune of Kadiogo Province in central Burkina Faso.
