Mauá Shipyard SA is the oldest private Brazilian shipyard, being surpassed only by the state-owned Arsenal da Marinha do Brasil, which was founded in 1808. Its origin is the Anglo-Brazilian company Estabelecimento de Fundição e Estaleiros da Ponta d'Areia, located in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, and was bought on August 11, 1846, by Irineu Evangelista de Sousa, at the time Baron of Mauá.In 2000, the company entered into a joint-venture with Jurong Shipyard in Singapore, creating the company Mauá Jurong S/A (MJ). The new company, in addition to the construction and repair of ships, specializes in the construction of platforms for oil and gas exploration.

The land was obtained from a donation in 1821 that was received by the Brotherhood of St. John the Baptist, which existed since 1742. In 1831, as the Vicar was Friar Tomaz Aquino, the new cathedral was blessed, for which the Blessed Sacrament was moved and the Images that were in the church of Our Lady of the Conception. It was declared a cathedral in 1908.

President Costa e Silva Bridge, commonly known as the Rio–Niterói Bridge, is a box girder bridge crossing Guanabara Bay, in the State of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. It connects the cities of Rio de Janeiro and Niterói. It is currently the second longest bridge in Latin America, after the Metro Line 1 bridge, and the 48th longest in the world in 2020. From its completion in 1974 until 1985 it was the world's second-longest bridge, second only to the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.

The Fluminense Federal University (Portuguese: Universidade Federal Fluminense, UFF, named after the state's demonym) is a public higher education institution located mainly in Niterói and in other cities of Rio de Janeiro state. It was first established on December 18, 1960, with the name of Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UFERJ), through an integration of different academic colleges in the city of Niterói. On November 5, 1965, the current name became official. It is considered one of the main centers of excellence in Brazil, ranked in the 17th (out of 68) national position in the Center for World University Rankings of the best universities and 889th (out of 1000) world position. UFF is among the top 25 universities in Latin America, according to research published by the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities. Besides, UFF has become the sixteenth largest university in the country, the sixth largest public university and the third largest federal university in the country.

Estádio Caio Martins, sometimes called Estádio Mestre Ziza, is a football stadium in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. The stadium holds 12,000 people. It was built in 1941. The stadium is owned by the Rio de Janeiro state government. The stadium's name honors Caio Vianna Martins. In 1938 15-year-old Scout Martins, along with many other passengers, was seriously injured in a train accident, but refused the offer of a stretcher, saying that others needed it more than he. Martins walked to the aid location but died soon after. Nowadays, the stadium is also home for the 15th Scout Group Martim Afonso (Portuguese:15º Grupo Escoteiro Martim Afonso), one of the oldest groups in Niterói, with more than 55 years. The nickname Mestre Ziza, meaning Master Ziza, honors the late Zizinho, a Brazilian footballer who played the 1950 FIFA World Cup.
