Ilha da Conceição (Portuguese for Conception Island) is an island and one of the 48 administrative districts in which the city of Niterói, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil is divided. It lies in the northern zone of the city, in the Guanabara Bay.

Estádio Caio Martins, sometimes called Estádio Mestre Ziza, is a football stadium in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil. The stadium holds 12,000 people. It was built in 1941. The stadium is owned by the Rio de Janeiro state government. The stadium's name honors Caio Vianna Martins. In 1938 15-year-old Scout Martins, along with many other passengers, was seriously injured in a train accident, but refused the offer of a stretcher, saying that others needed it more than he. Martins walked to the aid location but died soon after. Nowadays, the stadium is also home for the 15th Scout Group Martim Afonso (Portuguese:15º Grupo Escoteiro Martim Afonso), one of the oldest groups in Niterói, with more than 55 years. The nickname Mestre Ziza, meaning Master Ziza, honors the late Zizinho, a Brazilian footballer who played the 1950 FIFA World Cup.

The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Niteroi (Nictheroy) (Latin: Archidioecesis Nictheroyensis) is a Latin rite Metropolitan archdiocese located in the city of Niterói in Rio de Janeiro state, southeast Brazil. Its cathedral archiepiscopal see is Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, dedicated to John the Baptist, in Niterói. The city also has a Minor basilica : Basílica Nossa Senhora Auxiliadora, dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and builds a future Cathedral: Nova Catedral São João Batista Nova Catedral São João Batista.

The Metropolitan Cathedral of St. John the Baptist (Portuguese: Catedral Metropolitana São João Batista) Also Niterói Cathedral It is a Catholic cathedral built in late colonial style in the city of Niterói, in the state of Rio de Janeiro in the south of Brazil. It is located in Jardim São João, set of landscaped squares in the historical center of the city. It has two bell towers and a rich religious decoration. With the creation of the Royal Ville of Praia Grande, in Niteroi, in 1819, was designed to build a new headquarters at the front of the village. The land was obtained from a donation in 1821 that was received by the Brotherhood of St. John the Baptist, which existed since 1742. In 1831, as the Vicar was Friar Tomaz Aquino, the new cathedral was blessed, for which the Blessed Sacrament was moved and the Images that were in the church of Our Lady of the Conception. It was declared a cathedral in 1908.

It is considered one of the main centers of excellence in Brazil, ranked in the 17th (out of 68) national position in the Center for World University Rankings of the best universities and 889th (out of 1000) world position. UFF is among the top 25 universities in Latin America, according to research published by the Webometrics Ranking of World Universities. Besides, UFF has become the sixteenth largest university in the country, the sixth largest public university and the third largest federal university in the country.

The Niterói circus fire occurred on December 17, 1961 in the city of Niterói, Brazil. A fire in the tent housing a sold-out performance by the Gran Circus Norte-Americano caused more than 500 deaths. It is the worst fire disaster to occur in Brazil.

Mauá Shipyard SA is the oldest private Brazilian shipyard, being surpassed only by the state-owned Arsenal da Marinha do Brasil, which was founded in 1808.
