Bisbrooke is a village and civil parish in the county of Rutland in the East Midlands of England. The village is situated about 2 miles (3.2 km) east of Uppingham, south of the A47 road which passes through the parish. In 2001, it had a population of 219, falling to 204 at the 2011 census.

The village's name means 'farm/settlement of Glathr'.Glaston is about 4 miles (6.4 kilometres) south of Rutland Water and is situated on the A47, 2 miles (3.2 kilometres) east of Uppingham. There are approximately 80 houses in total with one public house, The Old Pheasant (previously the Monckton Arms) on Main Road (A47), and a flooring warehouse, Glaston Carpets. There is an active parish meeting that is held once a month and villagers are trying to get a bypass for the village. A rectangular pond is a cartwash of circa 1740, used for soaking cartwheels to prevent the wood shrinking from iron tyres and also for horses' hooves to prevent hardening.Glaston railway tunnel, 1 mile 82 yards in length, is located within the parish, to the east of the village.

Uppingham railway station was a station in Uppingham, Rutland. It was the terminus of a branch line from Seaton and opened in 1894 and closed in 1960. In 1910, there were five trains daily to Seaton and four return (five on Fridays) and in 1922 there were also five but seven return. The station buildings were demolished and the site became a small industrial area.

Uppingham was a rural district in Rutland, England from 1894 to 1974, covering the south of the county. The rural district was formed by the Local Government Act 1894 from the part of the Uppingham rural sanitary district in Rutland. At the same time, the remainder of Uppingham RSD, which lay in Leicestershire and Northamptonshire became Hallaton Rural District and Gretton Rural District respectively. The only town in the district was Uppingham. The rural district was abolished in 1974 by the Local Government Act 1972. Uppingham RD was merged with three other authorities to become the non-metropolitan district of Rutland.

At the 2011 Census the population remained less than 100 and is included in the civil parish of Seaton. The village's name means 'outlying farm/settlement'. 'By water' refers to the nearby River Welland.

Lyddington Bede House (or Lyddington Bedehouse) is a historic house in Rutland, England, owned and opened to the public by English Heritage. The existing Grade I listed building is a part of a former palace of the Bishops of Lincoln, later used as an almshouse. It is next to St Andrew's Church in the village of Lyddington. The watch tower or gazebo is separately listed as Grade I and the boundary walls are Grade II. The site is a scheduled monument.

Perhaps, 'farm/settlement of Hlyda' or 'farm/settlement with a noisy stream'. Lyddington Bede House, owned by English Heritage, is a Grade I listed building incorporating parts of a medieval bishop's palace. In 1547 it was seized on behalf of the king from the Bishops of Lincoln and later passed to Lord Burghley. In 1600 part of the palace was converted into an almshouse and it continued in this use until 1930. The remains of the fishponds of the bishop's palace are nearby. St Andrew's Church is also Grade I listed.There are two public houses, The Marquess of Exeter and The Old White Hart.

With its art galleries Uppingham has become a popular destination for art lovers. Uppingham was named "best place to live in the Midlands in 2022" by The Times newspaper, who commented on the town by calling it "a discerning market town with art, heart and smarts — plus the magnificent Rutland Water".
