Matthews Commercial Historic District is a national historic district located at Matthews, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. The district encompasses 10 contributing buildings in the central business district of Matthews. It was developed between 1888 and 1939. Notable buildings include the United States Post Office (1939), Heath and Reid General Store (1888), Funderburk Brothers complex (1890s), and Renfrow Hardware (c. 1900).It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

The R.F. Outen Pottery is a historic industrial facility at 430 Jefferson Street in Matthews, North Carolina. The roughly 1.5-acre (0.61 ha) property includes a brick kiln, and a concrete-block workshop, both built about 1952 by Rufus Outen. Abutting the workshop to the north is a metal roofed and sided shed, in which Outen stored clay. Outen, trained by his father at the Matthews Pottery, produced utilitarian folk pottery on these premises until his retirement in 1976. The facility is a well-preserved example of a complete mid-20th century folk pottery works.The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.

Grace Academy is a private Christian university-model school located in Stallings, North Carolina. The school started back in 2000 and has grown from about 50 students to over 450 students stretching from Kindergarten-12th grade. Often described as a "home-school school", this is partly the truth because the majority of students take a few classes at Grace and take a few other classes at home or at other schools, such as Central Piedmont Community College. The format of the school is different from traditional schools. At Grace Academy, students choose up to 5 classes a day, and take those classes on Mondays and Wednesdays. Students can also choose a different set of up to 5 classes which they will attend Tuesdays and Thursdays, so all together one student can take anywhere from 1 to 10 courses. There is no school on Fridays. School days at Grace Academy last 5 hours and 45 minutes, from 8:25 to 2:00. This is so students who are taking classes at home may have plenty of time to do so. Grace Academy students only attend the school 120 days in a year, which is a drastic change from a traditional private or public school.

Matthews is a town in southeastern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, United States. It is a suburb of Charlotte. The population was 27,198 according to the 2010 census.

The Sportsplex at Matthews is a large sports complex and park in Matthews, North Carolina, southeast of Charlotte, featuring 12 full-sized soccer fields anchored by a 2,300-seat stadium. The stadium currently seats 5,000 as it has been expanded using modular seating.In 2018 bleacher seating was placed around Field 10 creating a smaller auxiliary stadium used by the Charlotte Independence as a training field and occasionally by the Charlotte Eagles and Lady Eagles for matches.

David W. Butler High School (commonly referred to as "Butler") was established in 1997 and is located in Matthews, North Carolina, United States. Butler's campus is 74 acres (300,000 m2). The mascot is the bulldog and school colors are black, red and silver. Its boundary includes most of Matthews, and a portion of Mint Hill.

Charlotte Secondary School is a public charter school located in Charlotte, North Carolina. It opened in 2007 as a middle school, and has since grown to include grades 6–12.

Providence High School is a public high school located off of Pineville-Matthews Road in Charlotte, North Carolina, in suburban South Charlotte. Providence serves southern and southeastern Mecklenburg County and is a part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School District.

Charlotte Christian School is a private, college preparatory, non-denominational Christian school for grades K–12. It is located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Charlotte United Christian Academy is a private Christian school in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was founded in 2009 by Resurrection Church and Garr Church.

Garr Auditorium, also previously identified by the names Cannon Cathedral, Wesley Heights Church, or Garr Church, is a Pentecostal church in Charlotte, North Carolina founded by Alfred Goodrich Garr and his wife Lillian. They founded the church in 1930 and officially moved into the building they constructed in 1933, where the church stood for 80 years until 2010. The church was relocated after Hurricane Hugo in 1989, and operated at 7700 Wallace Rd in Charlotte, North Carolina. The building was destroyed in the early 2010s, and has since been replaced by a parking lot for a dealership.

Queen's Grant High School is a charter school in Matthews, North Carolina. The campus is on 32 acres, formerly Idlewild Country Club. It is an extension of Queen's Grant Community School, an NHA charter that offers grades K-8.
