Long Valley is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located within Washington Township, in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Once known as German Valley from its foundation during the colonial era, the community was renamed in response to anti-German sentiment during World War I. As of the 2010 United States Census, the CDP's population was 1,879.

The German Valley Historic District is a 69-acre (28 ha) historic district located in the Long Valley section of Washington Township in Morris County, New Jersey. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 14, 1983, for its significance in agriculture, education, transportation, industry, and religion.

The Mount Olive Village Historic District is a 7-acre (2.8 ha) historic district located along Mount Olive Road and Flanders-Drakestown Road in the Mount Olive Village section of Mount Olive Township in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 3, 2015, for its significance in architecture and exploration/settlement. The district has two contributing buildings, the Mount Olive Baptist Church and the Mount Olive Academy, and three contributing sites.

The Craft–Clausen House is a historic stone house located at 170 Fairmont Road in Washington Township, Morris County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 1, 1992, for its significance in architecture. The house is part of the Stone Houses and Outbuildings in Washington Township Multiple Property Submission (MPS).

The Washington Township Schools are a community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade from Washington Township, in Morris County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2020–21 school year, the district, comprised of four schools, had an enrollment of 1,938 students and 196.9 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 9.8:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Students in public school for ninth through twelfth grades attend West Morris Central High School, which is located in the township, but has a Chester mailing address. The school is part of the West Morris Regional High School District, which also serves students from the surrounding Morris County school districts of Chester Borough, Chester Township, Mendham Borough, Mendham Township, who attend West Morris Mendham High School. As of the 2020–21 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 1,098 students and 94.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.6:1.

The Combe Fill South Landfill is located on the border of Chester and Washington townships, both of which are in Morris County, in the state of New Jersey. The Landfill was put on the National Priority List by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in September 1983 due to the site being tested for potentially dangerous chemicals, such as benzene, methylene chloride, and chloroform. Despite attempts to clean up, the site has remained an active Superfund as of September 25, 2017.

The Jacob Wise Neighbor House is a historic house built c. 1830 and located at 143 West Mill Road near Long Valley in Washington Township, Morris County, New Jersey. The J. W. Neighbor House was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 22, 1991, for its significance in architecture. The 3.5-acre (1.4 ha) property overlooks the valley formed by the South Branch Raritan River. It is now the Neighbour House Bed & Breakfast.

The Leonard Neighbor Farmstead is a historic house located at 177 West Mill Road near Long Valley in Washington Township, Morris County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 1, 1992, for its significance in architecture. The farm overlooks the valley formed by the South Branch Raritan River. The house is part of the Stone Houses and Outbuildings in Washington Township Multiple Property Submission (MPS).

Washington Township is a township in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 18,197, a decrease of 336 (−1.8%) from the 2010 census count of 18,533, which in turn reflected an increase of 941 (+5.3%) from the 17,592 counted in the 2000 census.The township is situated in the westernmost part of Morris County bordering both Hunterdon and Warren counties. It is located within the Raritan Valley region and is one of six municipalities (five of which are townships) in the state with the name "Washington". Washington Borough, located only 10 miles (16 km) away, is surrounded by another municipality that is also called Washington Township in Warren County. Flocktown Schoolhouse is located near the intersection of Flocktown and Naughright Roads in Washington Township, Morris County, New Jersey. The schoolhouse was built c. 1869 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 30, 1982 for its significance in architecture and education.

The West Morris Regional High School District is a limited purpose regional public high school district in New Jersey that serves students from the surrounding Morris County communities of Chester Borough, Chester Township, Mendham Borough, Mendham Township and Washington Township. Elementary school students of the constituent municipalities attend separate K-8 school districts maintained by four of the five municipalities; Chester Borough and Chester Township schools are consolidated under the Chester School District and the remaining three municipalities each have their own districts (Mendham Borough Schools, Mendham Township Public Schools and Washington Township Schools).As of the 2021–22 school year, the district, comprised of two schools, had an enrollment of 2,240 students and 189.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.8:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. In August 2015, West Morris Central (ranked 151st) and Mendham (18th) were ranked among "America's Top High Schools 2015" by Newsweek magazine.West Morris Mendham High School was ranked as the seventh-most challenging public, non-magnet, non-charter high school in 2017 by The Washington Post and the most challenging such school in New Jersey.

The Black River, known as the Lamington River downstream of Pottersville, is a tributary of the North Branch Raritan River in central New Jersey in the United States.The Black River starts near that of the North Branch Raritan River, several miles west of Morristown, rising out of Sunset Lake in Mine Hill New Jersey. It flows through the Black River Wildlife Management Area, the Black River County Park, and Hacklebarney State Park. It flows through Chester, New Jersey and the town middle school is named after it.
