Long Valley, New Jersey

The German Valley Historic District is a 69-acre (28 ha) historic district located in the Long Valley section of Washington Township in Morris County, New Jersey. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 14, 1983, for its significance in agriculture, education, transportation, industry, and religion.

The Mount Olive Village Historic District is a 7-acre (2.8 ha) historic district located along Mount Olive Road and Flanders-Drakestown Road in the Mount Olive Village section of Mount Olive Township in Morris County, New Jersey, United States. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 3, 2015, for its significance in architecture and exploration/settlement. The district has two contributing buildings, the Mount Olive Baptist Church and the Mount Olive Academy, and three contributing sites.

The Washington Township Schools are a community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade from Washington Township, in Morris County, New Jersey, United States.As of the 2020–21 school year, the district, comprised of four schools, had an enrollment of 1,938 students and 196.9 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 9.8:1.The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second-highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.Students in public school for ninth through twelfth grades attend West Morris Central High School, which is located in the township, but has a Chester mailing address. The school is part of the West Morris Regional High School District, which also serves students from the surrounding Morris County school districts of Chester Borough, Chester Township, Mendham Borough, Mendham Township, who attend West Morris Mendham High School. As of the 2020–21 school year, the high school had an enrollment of 1,098 students and 94.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.6:1.

The Sharpenstine Farmstead is a historic farmhouse located at 98 East Mill Road near Long Valley in Washington Township, Morris County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 1, 1992, for its significance in architecture. The 22.4-acre (9.1 ha) farm overlooks the valley formed by the South Branch Raritan River. The house is part of the Stone Houses and Outbuildings in Washington Township Multiple Property Submission (MPS).

The Jacob Wise Neighbor House is a historic house built c. 1830 and located at 143 West Mill Road near Long Valley in Washington Township, Morris County, New Jersey. The J. W. Neighbor House was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 22, 1991, for its significance in architecture. The 3.5-acre (1.4 ha) property overlooks the valley formed by the South Branch Raritan River. It is now the Neighbour House Bed & Breakfast.

It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 1, 1992, for its significance in architecture. The house is part of the Stone Houses and Outbuildings in Washington Township Multiple Property Submission (MPS).

Washington Township is a township in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. As of the 2020 United States census, the township's population was 18,197, a decrease of 336 (−1.8%) from the 2010 census count of 18,533, which in turn reflected an increase of 941 (+5.3%) from the 17,592 counted in the 2000 census.The township is situated in the westernmost part of Morris County bordering both Hunterdon and Warren counties. It is located within the Raritan Valley region and is one of six municipalities (five of which are townships) in the state with the name "Washington". Washington Borough, located only 10 miles (16 km) away, is surrounded by another municipality that is also called Washington Township in Warren County. The Anthony–Corwin Farm is a historic farmhouse located at 244 West Mill Road near Long Valley in Washington Township, Morris County, New Jersey. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 1, 1992, for its significance in architecture. The 11.5-acre (4.7 ha) farm overlooks the valley formed by the South Branch Raritan River. The farmhouse is part of the Stone Houses and Outbuildings in Washington Township Multiple Property Submission (MPS).

Flocktown Schoolhouse is located near the intersection of Flocktown and Naughright Roads in Washington Township, Morris County, New Jersey. The schoolhouse was built c. 1869 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 30, 1982 for its significance in architecture and education.

The Combe Fill South Landfill is located on the border of Chester and Washington townships, both of which are in Morris County, in the state of New Jersey. The Landfill was put on the National Priority List by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in September 1983 due to the site being tested for potentially dangerous chemicals, such as benzene, methylene chloride, and chloroform. Despite attempts to clean up, the site has remained an active Superfund as of September 25, 2017.

Schooley's Mountain is an unincorporated community located within Washington Township in Morris County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. Named for the Schooley family who owned a considerable amount of land there in the 1790s, the community is on Schooley's Mountain, a mountain with an elevation of about 1,000 feet (300 m) directly north of Long Valley. Located about 45 miles (72 km) from New York City, the community is situated 600 feet (180 m) above the surrounding valley. It contains many housing developments and Schooley's Mountain Park, a recreational area with an overlook, a waterfall, and numerous hiking paths, as well as Lake George. In its past, Schooley's Mountain was a resort and an estate. The earliest residents were the Lenape Native Americans, who called it home. The Vanderbilts were among the numerous New York City socialites who trekked to the mountain for its restorative waters. The rich chalybeate-infused waters were thought to improve health, and detoxify the system.Schooley's Mountain County Park offers active and passive recreation on 797 acres (3.23 km2). The park was acquired by the Morris County Parks Commission in 1969 and opened to the public in 1974.Schooley's Mountain General Store opened in 1803 and is the oldest continuously operating general store in the state as of 2023. Notable visitors include Ulysses S. Grant, William Henry Harrison, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Robert De Niro.
