The commune is principally known for its homonymous medieval tower, constructed between the 12th and 14th centuries, and its production of wine bearing the same name. Barbaresco borders the following municipalities: Alba, Castagnito, Guarene, Neive, and Treiso.

Poderi Colla is an Italian winery, based in Barolo, Piedmont, Italy. It was established by Ernesto "Tino" Colla and his niece Federica in 1993. Poderi Colla has three vineyards covering some 70 acres, Cascina Drago and Tenuta Dardi Le Rase in Barolo and Tenuta Roncaglie in Barbaresco. Wine Opus described the wines as "impressive, traditional-leaning wines", describing their Barolo Bussia as "a firm, powerful expression of Nebbiolo", but said that their Barbaresco Roncaglie "shows more finesse and elegance". Cincinnati Magazine described their 2002 Barbera d'Alba as of "really serious quality". Australian winemaker Ben Cane worked for Poderi Colla for some time.

Bruno Giacosa (died 21 January 2018) was an Italian wine producer from the village Neive in the Langhe region (Piemonte), who produced a number of Barbaresco and Barolo wines, as well as bottlings of Arneis, Barbera, Dolcetto and a sparkling wine. Wines produced from owned vineyards are bottled under the label Azienda Agricola Falletto (di Bruno Giacosa), wines from bought grapes or from grapes from leased vineyards under the label Casa Vinicola Bruno Giacosa. In terms of the production of Nebbiolo, Giacosa was considered a traditionalist. He has been described as the "Genius of Neive".

Gaja is an Italian wine producer from the Piemonte region in the district of Langhe, chiefly producing a number of Barbaresco and Barolo wines, and later diversified into Brunello di Montalcino and "Super Tuscan" production.
