Bernauer Straße (Berlin U-Bahn)

Tunnel 57 was a tunnel under the Berlin Wall that on 3 and 4 October 1964 was the location of a mass escape by 57 East Berlin citizens. Student and future astronaut Reinhard Furrer was among the West German escape helpers who assisted the East Berliners in escaping. During the escape, East German border guards came upon the scene. A West German escape helper, Christian Zobel, opened fire, the bullet piercing the lung of young East German guard Egon Schultz, who was then fatally wounded by friendly fire from another guard. This friendly fire was kept secret by the GDR government. A memorial plaque on the site today commemorates both the successful escape, and Schultz's death as a victim of the Berlin Wall.

The Chapel of Reconciliation (German: Kapelle der Versöhnung) is a place of worship in Berlin, Germany. It stands on the site of the old Church of Reconciliation (de) (German: Versöhnungskirche), on Bernauer Strasse in the Mitte district.

Arkonaplatz is a 1.5-hectare square in Berlin's Mitte district of the same name and is part of the historic Rosenthaler Vorstadt district. It was created in the middle of the 19th century.

Voltastraße is a Berlin U-Bahn station located on the . Built in 1914 but not opened until 1930 (a delay caused by the First World War), it has granite columns and is 4.5 metres (15 ft) below the street.After the completion of the Berlin Wall, line U8 was severely curtailed. In the north, only Voltastraße and Gesundbrunnen stations could be used by West Berliners. Thereafter U8 became a tiny line of two stations that was little used, a condition that lasted until 5 October 1977 when it was extended to Osloer Straße to interchange with line U9.

The Ackerstraße is a street in Berlin which runs northwest from near the Liesenstraße – Scheringstraße traffic circle in Gesundbrunnen to Invalidenstraße, where it turns south, terminating at the Linienstraße in Mitte.

The Volkspark am Weinberg (also called Weinbergspark) is the only Volkspark (public park) in Berlin's Mitte locality in the district of the same name and covers an area of 4.3 hectares (11 acres). It is bordered by Weinbergsweg to the southeast, Brunnenstraße to the southwest, Veteranenstraße to the northwest and Fehrbelliner Straße to the northeast. The name Weinberg (vineyard) goes back to the vineyards that formerly occupied the hill on which the park is now situated. Since the late 1970s, the park has been designated as a garden monument (Gartendenkmal).

Bernauer Straße is a street of Berlin situated between the localities of Gesundbrunnen and Mitte, today both belonging to the Mitte borough. It runs from the Mauerpark at the corner of Prenzlauer Berg to the Nordbahnhof. The street's name refers to the town of Bernau bei Berlin, situated in Brandenburg. When Berlin was a divided city, the Berlin Wall erected in 1961 ran along this street. Bernauer Straße became famous for escapes from windows of apartment blocks in the eastern part of the city, down to the street, which was in the West. Several people died here when the border was first enforced.

The Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer (Berlin Wall Memorial) commemorates the division of Berlin by the Berlin Wall and the deaths that occurred there. The monument was created in 1998 by the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal State of Berlin. It is located on Bernauer Straße at the corner of Ackerstraße and includes a Chapel of Reconciliation, the Berlin Wall Documentation Centre, a 60-metre (200 ft) section of the former border, a window of remembrance and a visitor center.

Zionskirchplatz is a pentagonal square in the Rosenthaler Vorstadt, a district of Berlin's Mitte district. It is located on the approximately 53 meter high Veteranenberg, an elevation on the southwestern edge of the Barnim plateau and is registered as a garden monument with the number 09010210 in the Berlin State Monument List.

The old Berlin Nordbahnhof was a short-lived passenger railway terminus in Berlin, Germany. It was situated in Prenzlauer Berg, close to the borders with Gesundbrunnen, in the area of the "Mauerpark".

Rosenthaler Platz in Berlin's Mitte district, district Mitte, forms a crossroads where Rosenthaler Strasse, Brunnenstrasse and Weinbergsweg meet Torstrasse, and is therefore not a square in the true sense of the word. It is located on the site of the former Rosenthaler Tor of the Berlin customs wall, from which a road led to the village of Rosenthal. This gate was one of the few through which Jews were allowed to enter Berlin until the 19th century. Those who were not allowed to enter could stay overnight in a special Jewish hostel. Directly in front of the gate, at the behest of Friedrich II, the Rosenthal suburb was built, a colony in which Saxon guest workers were settled. The Rosenthaler Tor was demolished around 1867 during Berlin's expansion and the demolition of the customs wall. In Alfred Döblin's novel Berlin Alexanderplatz, published in 1929, Rosenthaler Platz plays the central role in his second book; the construction work on the underground between Alexanderplatz and Rosenthaler Platz is also mentioned in it.The Rosenthaler Platz underground station was opened on 18 April 1930. When construction of the Berlin Wall began in the night of 13 August 1961, it was closed because the line led to West Berlin on both sides. Shortly after reunification in the GDR, from 22 December 1989 until the summer of 1990, the station functioned as a temporary border crossing. To the north of Rosenthaler Platz is the Weinbergspark.
