Kirkthorpe hydro is a hydroelectric generating plant located on the River Calder at Kirkthorpe Weir, 4 miles (6.4 km) east of the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. The plant was opened in 2017 and expects to be generating electricity for 100 years. Kirkthorpe Weir is the highest industrial weir in Yorkshire and has prevented fish passing upstream to spawn; the new hydro project has a fish pass built into it. At a nameplate capacity of 500 kW, along with another plant at Brotherton on the River Aire, the plant is jointly the largest hydroelectric generator in Yorkshire.

The Wakefield power stations refers to a series of two coal-fired power stations situated on the River Calder at Agbrigg south east of Wakefield, serving much of West Yorkshire. The first station on the site, Wakefield A power station was constructed for Wakefield Corporation in the late-1880s. A second station, Wakefield B power station, was brought into operation in the late-1940s and was decommissioned in 1991. The power station was situated between the A638 Doncaster Road and the southern bank of the River Calder, just east of the point where the railway line (originally built by the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway in 1848), from Wakefield Kirkgate to Oakenshaw junction, crosses the navigation.

Oakenshaw railway station was located about two miles south-east of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. It was opened in 1840 by the North Midland Railway on its line from Derby to Leeds. Originally built to serve Wakefield by omnibus, it had suitably ornate buildings, but was closed by the Midland Railway in 1870 when the station at Sandal and Walton was opened instead.

Warmfield cum Heath is a civil parish in the City of Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England. It has a population of 844. increasing to 941 at the 2011 Census. Until 1974 it formed part of Wakefield Rural District and as of 2004, its under the electoral ward of Normanton. The parish consists of the villages of Warmfield in the east, Heath in the west, and Kirkthorpe in the north, and the hamlet of Goosehill north of Warmfield. The A655 road traverses the area of the parish from southwest to northeast, and the southwestern parish boundary follows the A638 road. North of Kirkthorpe, the railway between Wakefield and Normanton passes through the area, but there is no station. At Goosehill there was a junction with the North Midland Railway. Neighbouring settlements are Agbrigg and Wakefield in the west, Normanton in the northeast, Streethouse in the east, New Sharlston in the southeast, and Walton in the south.

Crofton Depot is a traction maintenance depot located in Crofton, West Yorkshire, England. The depot is situated on the Wakefield Line and Pontefract Line at the eastern end of Crofton Junction and is located near the now demolished Crofton railway station. A few operators store trains overnight for early morning services at this depot those being CrossCountry, Grand Central and TransPennine Express.

Sandal and Agbrigg railway station serves the Wakefield suburbs of Sandal and Agbrigg in West Yorkshire, England. It lies on the Wakefield Line and is operated by Northern.

Crofton Station was the smaller of two stations serving Crofton (with the other being Hare Park & Crofton). It was next to Doncaster Road, on the current Pontefract Line, behind the Crofton Arms Public House. The station was demolished in the 1960s, yet the remains of the old station house in its current derelict form can be seen from the A638, or on passing trains from Wakefield Kirkgate, towards Pontefract Tanshelf. In 2001, Bombardier Transportation opened Crofton TMD, a traction maintenance depot, on the former station site.

Wakefield Kirkgate railway station is a railway station in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. Unlike the nearby Wakefield Westgate railway station, Kirkgate is unstaffed. The station is managed by Northern but also served by Grand Central and TransPennine Express. It is on the Hallam, Calder Valley, Pontefract and Huddersfield lines. It has a limited number of services to London King's Cross.
