Etherow Country Park

Ludworth is an area of Marple, Greater Manchester in Greater Manchester. Ludworth Civil Parish was created in 1896; it was part of Glossop Dale Rural District until 1934 when it was transferred to Chapel-en-le-Frith Rural District. In 1936 it was transferred, along with Mellor to Marple Urban District. In 1974 Marple Urban District became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport in Greater Manchester. The civil parish consisted of Marple Bridge and the smaller Mill Brow. Though today Ludworth is not often used for the area, it does live on with the name of the primary school located in Marple Bridge. Ludworth and Lyme is also an area within the Stockport Girlguide organisational areas.

The Goyt Way is a 10-mile (16 km) walking route from Etherow Country Park, Greater Manchester, to Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire, following the valley of the River Goyt. It is part of the longer Midshires Way, which in turn is part of the E2 European long-distance path. The path is waymarked, and intersects with the Cheshire Ring Canal Walk and the Peak District Boundary Walk. It passes through the following settlements: Compstall, Marple, Strines, Brookbottom, Hague Bar, New Mills and Furness Vale. In its latter stages, it follows the towpath of the Peak Forest Canal to its terminus at Whaley Bridge.

Compstall is a village in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England; it is situated between Marple Bridge and Romiley and is historically part of Cheshire. It was formerly a mill village, built by George Andrew in the 1820s to house his 800 workers. Most of the original mill cottages and other structures remain unchanged. The waterways were also constructed by Andrew to carry water from the weir, on the River Etherow, to turn the mill wheels, which stood where the car park is today. A water wheel called "Big Lily" was the largest in England when it was built in 1839. The former millpond forms part of Etherow Country Park, one of the oldest country parks in England.

Marple Bridge is a district of Marple in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport, Greater Manchester, England, on the River Goyt, which runs through the centre of the village. Historically part of the civil parish of Glossop, Derbyshire, it was included in the new parish of Ludworth and Chisworth in 1866. Ludworth became a separate parish in 1896 and was abolished in 1936, when the former parish was transferred to Cheshire and amalgamated into Marple Urban District. In 1974, the urban district was abolished and Marple Bridge became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport in the county of Greater Manchester. It shares borders with Mellor, Marple, Compstall, New Mills, Strines, Mill Brow and Chisworth. It is in the ecclesiastical parish of Mellor; the parish church of St. Thomas stands several hundred feet higher than the village, overlooking Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

Brown Low is a bowl barrow most likely dating to the Bronze Age. An earth and stone mound survives east of Marple, Greater Manchester (grid reference SJ98829092). It is listed as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The mound was partially excavated by the Rev William Marriott in 1809,: 374–391  who discovered fragments of burnt stones and cremated bones, as well as a preserved acorn. Marriott also describes the finding of a funerary urn in an adjacent barrow during an unauthorised excavation.: 377, 383  Brown Low is on private land, just east of a public footpath running off Sandy Lane.

Werneth Low (; WUR-nəth) is a hill in Greater Manchester, England, and a part of the Pennines. It is located on the borders of Stockport and Tameside, rising to a height of 279 metres (915 ft). The villages of Woodley, Greave, Gee Cross, Mottram and Romiley lie on the sides of the low. The term "low" does not refer to any lack of altitude, it being a northern English word for hill. Werneth Low offers panoramic views over the Greater Manchester Urban Area and, in clear weather, the Winter Hill transmitting station can be seen from here. To the south, Stockport town centre, part of Wythenshawe in south Manchester and the Welsh Mountains can be viewed in clear weather. The majority of Werneth Low is administered jointly by Hyde War Memorial Trust (link below) and Tameside Council. The trust organises the Remembrance and Peace day services. It was established to be guardian of Werneth Low, to keep it "For the people of Hyde" and provide a lasting monument to the 710 men of Hyde that perished in World War I. Various landmarks can be seen from the top of Werneth Low, including: Manchester's Deansgate Square, Beetham Tower, the Oldham Civic Centre and Jodrell Bank Observatory's radio telescope (visible from the south-western end of the hilltop).

Chisworth is a hamlet near Glossop, Derbyshire, England. It is 3 miles (4.8 km) south-west of Glossop town centre, on the south side of the Etherow valley. The parish of Chisworth was formed in 1896, out of the parish of Chisworth and Ludworth. In 1901, it had a population of 409. From 1896 until 1934 it was in the Glossop Rural District, when it was placed with Ludworth into the Chapel en le Frith Rural District. The village possesses a Methodist chapel. The A626 road passes through the hamlet. In June 1930, a local cloudburst caused flooding that killed one man and destroyed equipment at the mills, one of which never reopened.

Brabyns Park is a public park in Marple Bridge, Stockport, Greater Manchester, England.

St. Thomas' Church is at the top of a lane overlooking the village of Mellor, Greater Manchester, England with views over Manchester, Cheshire and beyond. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II listed building. The church contains the oldest wooden pulpit in England and a late 12th-century Norman font. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Chadkirk, the archdeaconry of Macclesfield, and the diocese of Chester.

Hattersley railway station serves the Hattersley housing estate in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. The station is 9 miles (14 km) east of Manchester Piccadilly on the Manchester-Glossop Line. The station was opened by British Rail in 1978 as an island platform with a covered footbridge leading to the station's exit. It once used to contain a glass waiting room/area, but this was later subjected to an arson attack. Hattersley has been serviced by 3 car trains through its life, but has an extended platform that can comfortably fit 6 car trains. It has car parking spaces and once used to incorporate a bus interchange where the number 216 bus service would run to the station before continuing through Hattersley to the terminus or going to Hyde and Manchester. The station and the line around 1 km to the east of it is currently within a substantial cutting, a new Hattersley Viaduct replacing two tunnels some 400m in length which were likely required to be removed as part of the post-war electrification works.

Mellor hill fort is a prehistoric site in North West England, that dates from the British Iron Age—about 800 BC to 100 AD. Situated on a hill in Mellor, Greater Manchester, on the western edge of the Peak District, the hill fort overlooks the Cheshire Plain. Although the settlement was founded during the Iron Age, evidence exists of activity on the site as far back as 8,000 BC; during the Bronze Age the hill may have been an area where funerary practices were performed. Artefacts such as a Bronze Age amber necklace indicate the site was high status and that its residents took part in long-distance trade. The settlement was occupied into the Roman period. After the site was abandoned, probably in the 4th century, it was forgotten until its rediscovery in the 1990s.

Mellor is a village in Greater Manchester, England, lying between Marple Bridge and New Mills, Derbyshire.Buildings in the village include St. Thomas' Church, a primary school, golf course, sports club, a riding school, three pubs (the Royal Oak, The Devonshire Arms and The Oddfellows Arms) and the late-17th-century Mellor Hall. The village was a civil parish in the county of Derbyshire until 1936, when it was transferred to Marple Urban District in Cheshire. In 1974, it became part of the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport in Greater Manchester.
