Newdigate Brickworks

Newdigate is a village and civil parish in the Mole Valley borough of Surrey lying in a relatively flat part of the Weald to the east of the A24 road between Dorking and Horsham, 13 miles (21 km) ESE of Guildford and 25 miles (40 km) south of London. Neighbouring parishes are Charlwood, North Holmwood, South Holmwood, Leigh and Capel.

The Hundred of Wotton, Wotton Hundred or Dorking Hundred was a hundred in Surrey, England. The hundred comprised a south-central portion of the county, clockwise the parishes of Abinger, Wotton, Dorking, Capel and Ockley. The area's owner initially had pecuniary rights (to incomes) over parts of parishes on the borders of the area and just beyond, from just north of Guildford to Sussex. The site of the Hundred Court is indicated in the later medieval records as Dorking, hence its latter alternative name.What vestiges of rights to minor rents and other such rights in the hundred still remained in the 17th century were granted to Sir Edward Zouche in 1620 by James I, and later passed to the Earls of Onslow, heirs to the estates of the Earls of Surrey.Subsequent large village-size settlements within this area include the three Holmwoods collectively and Holmbury St Mary. The majority of it today, which is farmland or woodland, is Metropolitan Green Belt. The largest current settlement in the area is Dorking

Glover's Wood is a 74.5-hectare (184-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Charlwood in Surrey. It is a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade 2.This semi-natural broadleaved wood has a very rich ground flora, including dog's mercury, yellow archangel, ramsons and woodland buttercup. The insect fauna has not been well studied, but it is known that there are some rare craneflies such as Molophilus lackschewitzianus.The site is crossed by footpaths.

Edolph's Copse is a 27.6-hectare (68-acre) Local Nature Reserve west of Horley in Surrey. It is owned and managed by the Woodland Trust.The copse is mainly secondary woodland but it has areas of ancient forest. The main trees are oak, hazel and hornbeam, with a few crab apples and hawthorns, together with a large wild service tree. There are also several ponds and some grassland.

Leigh is a village and civil parish in Surrey, between Reigate, Dorking and Charlwood in the east of Mole Valley district. The village centre is suburban and its remainder is agricultural, interspersed by four satellite clustered localities: Dawesgreen, Bunce Common, Shellwood Cross and Nalderswood which benefit from the amenities of the village and a minority of the remainder is woodland.

Holmwood railway station serves the villages of Beare Green and South Holmwood in Surrey, England, on the Sutton and Mole Valley Lines between Dorking and Horsham, 27 miles 5 chains (43.6 km) from London Waterloo.

Capel () is a village and civil parish in southern Surrey, England. It is equidistant between Dorking and Horsham – about 5 miles (8.0 km) away. Around Capel, to the west, skirts the A24 road. Capel is approximately 2.5 miles (4.0 km) north of the West Sussex border, 26 miles (42 km) south of London and 12 miles (19 km) southeast of Guildford and is in the Mole Valley district. The village is in the north of a landscape called the Weald, meaning forest, which forms a significant minority of the land today, particularly towards the Greensand Ridge.

Rusper is a village and civil parish in the Horsham District of West Sussex, England. It lies 4.1 miles (6.6 km) north of the town of Horsham and 4.2 miles (6.8 km) west of Crawley. Rusper is the centre of Rusper Parish which covers most of the northern area between Horsham and Crawley. Rusper is governed by the Horsham District Council based in Horsham. The parish population at the 2001 census was 1,389 people.It has a range of local services (mainly located on the High Street) such as a village shop and post office, a residential care home, a park, a church, a recreational sports area consisting of a Football pitch and two Tennis courts (one with basketball hoops), a hotel, two pubs The Plough and The Star, a village hall, and Rusper Primary School, built in 1872. Rusper is close to London Gatwick Airport, which is only five miles away and lies under the flight path. It is on the watershed between the River Arun to the west and the River Mole to the east, with predominantly weald clay soils. Rusper Priory, a priory of Benedictine nuns, was established in the parish c.1200. The Parish Church of St Mary Magdalene is a Grade I listed building with a good medieval tower. Rusper is the eponymous village in Five Years Hell in a Country Parish by Reverend Edward Fitzgerald Synnott, Rector of the place, published in 1920. Plagued by endless gossip-mongering, anonymous and begging letters and outrage from the wealthier of his flock at his assertion that all men are equal in the sight of God, he was subject to a serious spiteful campaign and eventually sent for trial for misconduct. He was found not guilty on a charge of immorality by the Chichester Consistory Court in January 1920. He stayed there another thirteen years.Ridge Farm Studio was a residential recording studio, from 1975 to 2003.

Dorking and Horley is a new constituency of the House of Commons in the UK Parliament. Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, it was first contested in the 2024 general election. The constituency is named for the towns of Dorking and Horley in Surrey.

South Holmwood () is a semi-rural village in Surrey, England. It can be considered cognate with its wider civil parish, which stretches to the east to embrace Holmwood Common, but does not include Mid Holmwood, or North Holmwood, the latter being contiguous with Dorking. Betchett's Brook is the southern boundary and runs through a locality known as Holmwood Corner. However, Holmwood railway station is within the parish of Capel, although connected to the South Holmwood by a curved path passing through Holmwood Corner Common. Centred 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Dorking, South Holmwood is on the A24 London to Worthing road, a dual carriageway through the village.

Clock House Brickworks is a 35.9-hectare (89-acre) geological Site of Special Scientific Interest south of Capel in Surrey. It is a Geological Conservation Review site.The pit exposes temperate and subtropical palaeoenvironments of the Lower Cretaceous Weald Clay Group. The site is particularly important for its several thousand fossil insects, including the first described social insect, a termite. There are also aquatic plants, fish and reptiles.The site is private land with no public access.
