The Temple of Olympian Zeus (Greek: Ναός του Ολυμπίου Διός, Naós tou Olympíou Diós), also known as the Olympieion or Columns of the Olympian Zeus, is a former colossal temple at the center of the Greek capital Athens. It was dedicated to "Olympian" Zeus, a name originating from his position as head of the Olympian gods. Construction began in the 6th century BC during the rule of the Athenian tyrants, who envisaged building the greatest temple in the ancient world, but it was not completed until the reign of the Roman Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century AD, some 638 years after the project had begun. During the Roman period the temple, which included 104 colossal columns, was renowned as the largest temple in Greece and housed one of the largest cult statues in the ancient world. The temple's glory was short-lived, as it fell into disuse after being pillaged during a barbarian invasion in 267 AD, just about a century after its completion. It was probably never repaired and was reduced to ruins thereafter. In the centuries after the fall of the Roman Empire, it was extensively quarried for building materials to supply building projects elsewhere in the city. Despite that, a substantial part of the temple remains today, notably sixteen of the original gigantic columns, and it continues to be part of a very important archaeological site of Greece.

Mets (Greek: Μετς) is a neighborhood of Athens, Greece. It is located between Ardettos Hill, First Cemetery of Athens and Temple of Olympian Zeus.Mets owes its name to a beer brewery, opened by Bavarian brewer Karl Fuchs (the same man who founded Greek beer company Fix). Beer was, at the time, an unheard of beverage in Greece and was brought over due to the influence of Bavarian Greek king Otto of Greece.

The Athens Lawn Tennis Club (Greek: Όμιλος Αντισφαίρισης Αθηνών) is a multi-sports club that is located in Athens, Greece. The club currently has departments in bridge, gymnastics, squash, and in men's, women's and youth tennis. The club hosted the tennis events of the 1896 Summer Olympics, as well as the tennis events of the 1906 Intercalated Games.

The Arch of Hadrian (Greek: Αψίδα του Αδριανού, romanized: Apsida tou Adrianou), most commonly known in Greek as Hadrian's Gate (Greek: Πύλη του Αδριανού, romanized: Pyli tou Adrianou), is a monumental gateway resembling—in some respects—a Roman triumphal arch. It spanned an ancient road from the center of Athens, Greece, to the complex of structures on the eastern side of the city that included the Temple of Olympian Zeus. It has been proposed that the arch was built to celebrate the adventus (arrival) of the Roman emperor Hadrian and to honor him for his many benefactions to the city, on the occasion of the dedication of the nearby temple complex in 131 or 132 AD. Since Hadrian had become an Athenian citizen nearly two decades before the monument was built, Kouremenos has argued that the inscriptions on the arch honor him as an Athenian rather than as the Roman emperor. It is not certain who commissioned the arch, although it is probable that it was the citizens of Athens. There were two inscriptions on the arch, facing in opposite directions, naming both Theseus and Hadrian as founders of Athens. While it is clear that the inscriptions honor Hadrian, it is uncertain whether they refer to the city as a whole or to the city in two parts: one old and one new. The early idea, however, that the arch marked the line of the ancient city wall, and thus the division between the old and the new regions of the city, has been shown to be false by further excavation. The arch is located 325 metres (1,066 ft) southeast of the Acropolis.

The Belgian School at Athens ; (Dutch: Belgische School te Athene; French: École Belge d'Athènes; Greek: Βελγική Σχολή Αθηνών) is one of the 19 foreign archaeological institutes operating in Athens, Greece. The Belgian School was officially accredited in 1985, although Belgian archaeological activity in Greece goes back to the 1960s. It has been associated with the excavations at Thorikos (Attica) for a long time. Since 2007, it is also involved in an excavation at Sisi (Crete).

The Zappeion (Greek: Ζάππειον Μέγαρο, romanized: Záppeion Mégaro, pronounced [ˈzapi.on ˈmeɣaro] (listen)) is a large, palatial building next to the National Gardens of Athens in the heart of Athens, Greece. It is generally used for meetings and ceremonies, both official and private and is one of the city's most renowned modern landmarks.

Akropoli (Greek: Ακρόπολη) is a station on Athens Metro Line 2. The station opened on 15 November 2000, as part of the extension from Syntagma to Dafni, and is the nearest station to the Acropolis Museum and the eastern entrance to the Acropolis of Athens. The station has a ticket office and three automatic ticket machines. The station is decorated by huge posters of Melina Merkouri and reproductions of the Elgin Marbles of Parthenon.

The Danish Institute at Athens (Danish: Det Danske Institut I Athen; Greek: Ινστιτούτο της Δανίας στην Αθήνα) is one of the 19 foreign archaeological institutes operating in Athens, Greece. Founded in 1992, the Danish Institute focuses on archaeological research in Greece, but also operates as a cultural institute, with a programme of exhibitions and concerts. It is a contributor (with its Finnish, Norwegian and Swedish counterparts) to the Nordic Library at Athens. It is involved in archaeological fieldwork at Calydon and Kato Vassiliki (Aetolia), as well as Zea Harbour (Piraeus, Athens).

Makrygianni or Makriyanni (Greek: Μακρυγιάννη, pronounced [makɾiˈʝani]) is a neighborhood of Athens, Greece. Also known as Acropolis, it is located in the south side of Acropolis and bounded between the avenues Dionysiou Areopagitou and Syngrou. The district is named after Ioannis Makrygiannis, Greek general of the Greek War of Independence, who used to own a house and fields in the area. Opposite the house of Ioannis Makrygiannis a military hospital was built – known as Weiler Building after the architect who designed it. This building was later used as gendarmerie headquarters and a violent battle took place there during the Dekemvriana, in 1944. In the Makrygianni neighbourhood is located the new Acropolis Museum that was inaugurated in 2009.

Frissiras Museum is a contemporary painting museum in Plaka Athens, Greece. It was founded and endowed by Vlassis Frissiras, an art-collecting lawyer. Its permanent collection consists of 3000 paintings and sculptures by Greek and other European artists on the subject of the human form.

The Hellenic Children's Museum in Athens, Greece is located in two houses specifically designed for use by children. The museum is also featured in the book, The Athens Assignment.

The Museum of Greek Folk Art is a museum in Athens, Greece. The museum was founded in 1918 as the Museum of Greek Handicrafts in the Tzistarakis Mosque in Monastiraki, which later became the National Museum of Decorative Arts and in 1959 it obtained its current name. In 1973 the greater part of the collection and the main functions of the museum were moved to 17 Kydathinaion Str. in Plaka and the mosque was annexed to it. Other annexes are the old "Public Baths" at Kyrristou 8 and one at Thespidos 8, both also in Plaka.
