Stora Teatern

Kungsportsplatsen is a square in the city centre of Gothenburg, Sweden. The square was constructed in 1852 and got its name after the King's Gate (the name literally means, King's Gate Place). The gate was the main entrance to the fortified city, which was and still is surrounded by a moat. When the city grew outside the moat and there was no need to defend the city any longer the gate was torn down. At Kungsportsplatsen there is a statue of King Charles IX, which was placed there in 1936.

The Avalon Hotel is a hotel at Kungsportsplatsen in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was nominated for the Kasper Salin Prize in 2007. It is part of Design Hotels AG.

Valand Academy (Swedish: Akademin Valand) is a school for film, photography, literary composition, and fine art at the University of Gothenburg in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was formed in 2012 through the merger of three formerly independent schools/departments at the University of Gothenburg. Valand Academy can trace its roots back to the year 1865, and is older than the University of Gothenburg (founded 1891).

Vasaplatsen is a triangular public square in the district of Vasastaden in Gothenburg, Sweden. Since two tram lines crosses here, there are four combined tram and bus stops on the square close by each other that all go under the name Vasaplatsen. All public trams and buses in Gothenburg are operated by Västtrafik. In 1992, 13 people lost their lives and around 30 people were injured when a driverless tram came down the hill from Kapellplatsen and collided with another tram at Vasaplatsen.

Kungsparken (Swedish for King's park), originally Kungsportsparken, is a 13-hectare park behind Stora Teatern in Gothenburg, which encloses most of Nya Allén walkway, and constitutes a so-called park district. Kungsparken was built in several stages between 1839 and 1861. In the 1940s and 1950s, the park was a meeting place for the city's homosexual men.

The tram accident at Vasaplatsen in Gothenburg, Sweden, occurred on 12 March 1992, when a tram with non-functional brakes rolled 1.5 kilometres (0.9 mi) downhill, travelling backwards against traffic along Guldhedsgatan and Aschebergsgatan. Reaching speeds of up to 100 km/h (62 mph), it ploughed sideways across the Vasaplatsen tram platform, crushing over fifthy waiting commuters as well as two cars and their passengers on a parallel road. The accident remains the deadliest in the history of Gothenburg’s tramway, killing thirteen people and injuring forthy-two.

The Gothenburg Synagogue (Swedish: Göteborgs synagoga) at Stora Nygatan, near Drottningtorget, Gothenburg, Sweden, was opened in 1855 according to the designs of the German architect August Krüger. The congregation is Conservative. The synagogue sanctuary has 300 seats. Between 25 and 30% of the membership fees are used for security measures, as Jews risk attack from Middle Eastern, far-left and far-right extremists.The synagogue was firebombed on Saturday, 9 December 2017. Three migrant men were arrested. Prosecutor Stina Lundqvist said about 10 to 15 people may have attacked "in concert". The attack was condemned as antisemitic by mayor Ann-Sofie Hermansson. In the aftermath of the attack, the synagogue was visited by two cabinet ministers in a show of support from the highest political level.

The 2017 Gothenburg Synagogue attack took place on 9 December 2017 when individuals in a large gang threw firebombs at the synagogue in Gothenburg, which hosted an event with about 40 youth inside. The people inside fled to the basement but nobody was hurt. The incendiaries started a fire among the parked vehicles in the yard but the building did not catch fire. Of the about ten masked individuals at the scene, two stateless Palestinians and one Syrian could later be identified and they were sentenced to jail for having committed a hate crime.

The Röhsska Museum (Swedish: Röhsska museet, earlier named Röhsska konstslöjdsmuseet, also known as Design Museum), is located in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is a museum focused on design, fashion and applied arts. The museum collection consists of over 50,000 objects. The majority of the collection consists of handicraft and design products from Sweden and Europe and arts and crafts from Japan and China. The museum also holds a very fine collection of fashion from the 20th and 21st centuries, including many haute couture garments from Paris and other famous fashion designs from all over the world. Today, the Röhsska Museum mainly collects contemporaneous material and the museum seeks to achieve a dialogue with its users on contemporary phenomena and expression.

Vasagatan is a major street in central Gothenburg named after King Gustav Vasa. It stretches from Sprängkullsgatan in west to Heden in east. Along it are well known establishments like the Röhsska Museum, Gothenburg University and Gothenburg School of Economics and Commercial Law. The street is known for its many cafés, and it has several restaurants. It is said to have the most dense bicycle traffic in Gothenburg. The street crosses Kungsportsavenyn, and this crossing is the midpoint of nightlife in Gothenburg.

The University of Gothenburg (Swedish: Göteborgs universitet) is a university in Sweden's second largest city, Gothenburg. Founded in 1891, the university is the third-oldest of the current Swedish universities and, with 37,000 students and 6,000 staff members, it is one of the largest universities in the Nordic countries.

Vasaparken is a park in Vasastaden, Gothenburg, Sweden. The University of Gothenburg's main building is located on the northern part of the park.
