Hogum Bay is a bay in the U.S. state of Washington.According to tradition, the name Hogum refers land investors who quickly bought up (i.e. "hogged") land around the bay.

McAllister Creek is a stream in Thurston County in the U.S. state of Washington. It is a tributary to Puget Sound.McAllister Creek was named after James McAllister, a pioneer who arrived in the 1840s. The creek is also known as Medicine Creek or šxʷnanəm, to the Puyallup people.

Anderson Island is the southernmost island in Puget Sound and a census-designated place of Pierce County, Washington, United States. It is accessible by boat or a 20-minute ferry ride from Steilacoom. Anderson Island is just south of McNeil Island. To the northwest, Key Peninsula is across Drayton Passage. The south basin of Puget Sound separates the island from the mainland to the southeast, while to the southwest the Nisqually Reach of Puget Sound separates the island from the mainland.

Tolmie State Park is a public recreation area covering 154 acres (62 ha) on Nisqually Beach on Puget Sound, eight miles (13 km) northeast of Olympia, Washington. The state park includes 1,800 ft (550 m) of saltwater shoreline at the mouth of a creek known as Big Slough as well as forest lands, a saltwater marsh, and an underwater park with artificial reef for scuba diving.

The Nisqually River is a river in west central Washington in the United States, approximately 81 miles (130 km) long. It drains part of the Cascade Range southeast of Tacoma, including the southern slope of Mount Rainier, and empties into the southern end of Puget Sound. Its outlet was designated in 1971 as the Nisqually Delta National Natural Landmark. The Nisqually River forms the Pierce–Lewis county line, as well as the boundary between Pierce and Thurston counties.

Puget is an unincorporated community in Thurston County, in the U.S. state of Washington. The area is located on the Johnson Point peninsula overlooking Nisqually Reach.

During the Vashon Glaciation a series of lakes formed along the southern margin of the Cordilleran Ice Cap. In the Puget Sound depression, a series of lakes developed, of which Lake Russell was the largest and the longest lasting. Early Lake Russell’s surface was at 160 ft (49 m) above sea level, draining across the divide at Shelton, Washington into early Glacial Lake Russell. When the ice margin receded northward, the lake expanded. When it reached the Clifton channel outlet, the water levels dropped to 120 ft (37 m) above sea level. The new longer and lower level lake is referred to as Lake Hood. The glacier continued to retreat until the northern outlet of the Hood Canal was reached as the water level equalized with Glacial Lake Russell becoming part of that body of water.Lake Russell is named for geologist, Israel Cook Russell.Forming about 17,000 years before present (ybp) as the ice front began to retreat northward. One version or another of Lake Russell existed form 16,900 ybp until 15,900 ybp.

The Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge is a wildlife preserve operated by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service on the Nisqually River Delta near Puget Sound in northeastern Thurston County, Washington and northwestern Pierce County, Washington. The refuge is located just off Interstate 5, between the cities of Tacoma and Olympia.

Eagle Island State Park is a public recreation area in south Puget Sound occupying the entirety of Eagle Island in Pierce County, Washington. The five-acre (2.0 ha) island sits in Balch Passage between McNeil and Anderson islands about 750 feet (230 m) off Anderson Island's north shore. The island was named for Harry Eagle, one of the party members of the Wilkes Expedition of 1841.Park activities include picnicking, beachcombing, birdwatching, and wildlife viewing. A primitive trail runs through thick brush with short spurs that lead to the beach. The narrow beach is mostly gravel with the exception of a point of sand on the south end of the island. Three moorage buoys are available for boaters. The park is administered as a satellite of Jarrell Cove State Park.
