River Ridge High School (RRHS), commonly referred to as Ridge, is a public high school located in Lacey, Washington, United States and is one of three comprehensive high schools of the North Thurston Public Schools. It was established in 1993 and named for its proximity to the geographical ridge of the Nisqually River valley. It earned its school nickname due to its location within the Hawk's Prairie area of Thurston County off Exit 111 of Interstate 5, serving students living in Mushroom Corner and Tanglewilde-Thompson Place. River Ridge and its feeder school, Nisqually Middle School, serves many students with parents who are on active duty or have retired from the military due to its proximity to Joint Base Lewis-McChord. River Ridge was constructed as a community solution to handle the over-flowing capacities of neighboring Timberline and North Thurston High Schools in the late 1980s-early 1990s, producing a more diverse student body population than the other two high schools in the district.

Mushroom Corner is an unincorporated community in Thurston County, Washington, United States. Mushroom Corner is located in the urban growth area of Lacey, along Interstate 5 outside of Olympia, and is included in the Tanglewilde-Thompson Place Census-designated place (CDP) for Census purposes. The "corner" in Mushroom Corner is located at the intersection of Steilacoom Road SE and Marvin Road SE. The community takes its name from the local mushroom crop; the Ostrom Mushroom Farm operates nearby.

Tanglewilde (also Tanglewilde-Thompson Place) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Thurston County, Washington, United States, part of the Urban Growth Area of the city of Lacey. The community is surrounded by the city of Lacey and borders Mushroom Corner. The sections of Tanglewilde and Thompson Place are divided south and north, respectively, by Martin Way. Interstate 5 forms the northern border of the CDP, and Washington State Route 510 partially forms the eastern limits.

Tolmie State Park is a public recreation area covering 154 acres (62 ha) on Nisqually Beach on Puget Sound, eight miles (13 km) northeast of Olympia, Washington. The Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge is a wildlife preserve operated by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service on the Nisqually River Delta near Puget Sound in northeastern Thurston County, Washington and northwestern Pierce County, Washington. The refuge is located just off Interstate 5, between the cities of Tacoma and Olympia.

Medicine Creek is a stream in Thurston County in the U.S. state of Washington. It is a tributary to McAllister Creek.Medicine Creek received its name from Native Americans of the area, who believed its waters held medicinal qualities.

The Evergreen Ballroom was a music venue at 9121 Pacific Avenue SE in Olympia, Washington. Referred to as "The 'Green" by locals, it was a popular dancehall for nearly 70 years. In its heyday, famous musical acts of all genres performed at the Evergreen. The venue served as a central community gathering place until it was destroyed by a fire in 2000.

Union Mill (also known as Union Mills) is an unincorporated community in Thurston County, in the U.S. state of Washington. The city of Lacey is immediately to the west with Musroom Corner and access to Washington State Route 510 to the north.

Longs Pond is a lake within the Woodland Creek Community Park of Lacey, Washington. The pond has a surface area of 11 acres (4.5 ha).Longs Pond was named after Jeremiah and Anna Long, local residents.

Lake Lois is a lake in the U.S. state of Washington. The lake has a surface area of 1.5 acres (0.61 ha).Lake Lois was named after Lois McKinney, the daughter of the proprietor of a nearby resort.

During the Vashon Glaciation a series of lakes formed along the southern margin of the Cordilleran Ice Cap. In the Puget Sound depression, a series of lakes developed, of which Lake Russell was the largest and the longest lasting. Early Lake Russell’s surface was at 160 ft (49 m) above sea level, draining across the divide at Shelton, Washington into early Glacial Lake Russell. When the ice margin receded northward, the lake expanded. When it reached the Clifton channel outlet, the water levels dropped to 120 ft (37 m) above sea level. The new longer and lower level lake is referred to as Lake Hood. The glacier continued to retreat until the northern outlet of the Hood Canal was reached as the water level equalized with Glacial Lake Russell becoming part of that body of water.Lake Russell is named for geologist, Israel Cook Russell.Forming about 17,000 years before present (ybp) as the ice front began to retreat northward. One version or another of Lake Russell existed form 16,900 ybp until 15,900 ybp.
