River Ridge High School (RRHS), commonly referred to as Ridge, is a public high school located in Lacey, Washington, United States and is one of three comprehensive high schools of the North Thurston Public Schools. It was established in 1993 and named for its proximity to the geographical ridge of the Nisqually River valley. It earned its school nickname due to its location within the Hawk's Prairie area of Thurston County off Exit 111 of Interstate 5, serving students living in Mushroom Corner and Tanglewilde-Thompson Place. River Ridge and its feeder school, Nisqually Middle School, serves many students with parents who are on active duty or have retired from the military due to its proximity to Joint Base Lewis-McChord. River Ridge was constructed as a community solution to handle the over-flowing capacities of neighboring Timberline and North Thurston High Schools in the late 1980s-early 1990s, producing a more diverse student body population than the other two high schools in the district.

On December 18, 2017, Amtrak Cascades passenger train 501 derailed near DuPont, Washington, United States. The National Transportation Safety Board's (NTSB) final report said regional transit authority Sound Transit failed to take steps to mitigate a curve at the accident location, and inadequately trained the train engineer. The train was making the inaugural run of the Point Defiance Bypass, a new passenger rail route south of Tacoma, Washington, operated by Amtrak in partnership with state and local authorities in Oregon and Washington, on right-of-way owned and operated by Sound Transit. The bypass was intended to reduce congestion and separate passenger and freight traffic, and was designed for faster speeds and shorter travel times, saving ten minutes from Seattle to Portland compared with the previous route used by Cascades.The lead locomotive and all twelve cars derailed at 07:33 a.m. local time while approaching a bridge over Interstate 5 (I-5). The trailing locomotive remained on the rails. A number of automobiles on southbound I-5 were crushed, and three people on board the train died. The train derailed a short distance from where the new route merged with the previous route. Preliminary information from the data recorder showed that, when the incident happened, the train was traveling at 78 mph (126 km/h), nearly 50 mph (80 km/h) over the speed limit.

The Evergreen Ballroom was a music venue at 9121 Pacific Avenue SE in Olympia, Washington. Referred to as "The 'Green" by locals, it was a popular dancehall for nearly 70 years. In its heyday, famous musical acts of all genres performed at the Evergreen. The venue served as a central community gathering place until it was destroyed by a fire in 2000.

Mushroom Corner is an unincorporated community in Thurston County, Washington, United States. Mushroom Corner is located in the urban growth area of Lacey, along Interstate 5 outside of Olympia, and is included in the Tanglewilde-Thompson Place Census-designated place (CDP) for Census purposes. The "corner" in Mushroom Corner is located at the intersection of Steilacoom Road SE and Marvin Road SE. The community takes its name from the local mushroom crop; the Ostrom Mushroom Farm operates nearby.

The Home Course is a public golf course owned and operated by the Washington State Golf Association and Pacific Northwest Golf Association, located in DuPont, Washington, just south of Tacoma. The Home Course is often referred to as "The Home of Golf in the Northwest" and has hosted a number of championships over the years including the 2014 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, along with being the companion course to Chambers Bay for the 2010 U.S. Amateur.

It was originally defined as "the portion of the Sound lying between Anderson Island and the mainland".The Thurston–Pierce County line bisects the Reach.

Tolmie State Park is a public recreation area covering 154 acres (62 ha) on Nisqually Beach on Puget Sound, eight miles (13 km) northeast of Olympia, Washington. The state park includes 1,800 ft (550 m) of saltwater shoreline at the mouth of a creek known as Big Slough as well as forest lands, a saltwater marsh, and an underwater park with artificial reef for scuba diving.
