Markham Square

The Markham Arms is a former pub at 138 King's Road, London SW3. It closed as a pub in the early 1990s, and is now a branch of the Santander bank.It is a Grade II listed building, built in the mid-19th century.

The Pheasantry, 152 King's Road, Chelsea, London, is a Grade II listed building that was home to a number of important figures in 1960s London and a small music venue in the 1970s where a number of bands were able to play their first gigs.

The Chelsea Classic Cinema was a cinema originally opened in 1913 as the Chelsea Picture Playhouse, in the King's Road, Chelsea. It was designed by Felix Joubert, the cabinet maker and owner of The Pheasantry next door at number 152. It was built on land previously occupied by Box Farm (built in 1686 and demolished in 1899). On the western corner of Markham Street, it was initially opened by the London & Provincial Electric Theatre Company in 1913 with seating for 394 on a single floor. In the 1920s it was known as the Electric Theatre. By 1937 it had been taken over by Classic Cinemas Ltd, who specialised in repertory screenings of classic Hollywood films, and was renamed the Classic Cinema, when the facade was reduced in height and given a 'modern' look which it kept until it closed on 4 August 1973. It was the venue for The Rocky Horror Show four weeks after it had opened in London (at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs), playing for three months. After the run ended, the building was demolished, replaced by a branch of Boots the Chemist in 1973.

The Chelsea Drugstore was a sleek, modern travertine and brushed steel building on the corner of Royal Avenue and King's Road, Chelsea, London. It opened in 1968. Designed by architect Antony Cloughley and designer Colin Golding of GCB Associates, and inspired by Le Drugstore on Boulevard St Germain in Paris that was designed by Slavik [1] (Wiatscheslav Vassiliev), Chelsea Drugstore was arranged over three floors and on most days remained open for up to 16 hours. Inside customers would find bars, a chemist, newsstands, record stores and other concessions. A popular service was the 'flying squad' delivery option run by the store. Those who used this service would have their purchases delivered by hand by young ladies adorned in purple catsuits arriving on flashy motorcycles. Both pub and retail shops below were open until the late 1980s. The store became a wine bar, and is now a McDonald's.

Wellington Square is a garden square in Chelsea, London, off the south side of the King's Road. It was built in the first decades of the nineteenth century on the former site of a nursery owned by the florist and "well-known tulip-fancier" Thomas Davey and named after the Duke of Wellington. The square consists of 35 five-storey terraced stucco houses around a central garden with a fountain. The whole square is grade II listed with Historic England. In 1870 it was the location of a double-murder. A. A. Milne, creator of Winnie-the-Pooh, lived there in the early 1900s as well as the notorious occultist Aleister Crowley in the 1920s. It was the home of fictional spy James Bond. Other notable former residents include the geologist Samuel Joseph Mackie at number 11 and the miniaturist Alice Rischgitz at number 12.

The Chelsea Potter is a pub at 119 King's Road, Chelsea, London. It was built in 1842, sited on the corner of Kings Road and Radnor walk and originally called the Commercial Tavern it was renamed in 1958 in honour of the Chelsea Pottery located at 13 to 15 Radnor Walk and founded by David Rawnsley in 1952. The Chelsea Pottery was subsequently run for 40 years by Brian Hubbard http://www.studiopottery.com/cgi-bin/mp.cgi?item=52 For many years the pub sign showed a potter 'throwing a pot' on a wheel, one of the main techniques used at the Chelsea Pottery in producing its wares.The assertion that the Chelsea Potter was named after William de Morgan was first seen in a Taylor Walker website in 2015, possibly in ignorance of the recent existence of the Chelsea Pottery just 50 Yards from the pub's site.It is not clear why the Commercial Tavern would in 1958 be renamed after a pottery further away from the pub site than the Chelsea Pottery. The Commercial Tavern had never previously been named after William de Morgan's pottery which had closed in 1907.British History Online notes that "the Chelsea Potter became famous in the 1960s and 70s", and regular customers included Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones.

Radnor Walk is a residential street in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea off the King's Road in London. The houses are mid and late Victorian and the street is part of the Royal Hospital Conservation Area. It was originally called Radnor Street, and was named after John Robartes, 1st Earl of Radnor who died in Chelsea in 1685. It was renamed Radnor Walk in 1937.It runs parallel to Shawfield Street and Smith Street.

Sloane Avenue Mansions is a high-rise residential building in Sloane Avenue, Chelsea, London, England. It stands next to Nell Gwynn House, designed by the same architect.

Shawfield Street is a street in the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea off King's Road in SW3. On the corner is Shawfield House, a 7-bedroom mansion currently owned by Charles Saatchi and formerly, of ex-wife Nigella Lawson, which was redeveloped by them from a former gas engineering works. There is also an Oxfam shop on Shawfield Street and a hairdresser's called Vanilla . The street was used in the 2013 film Saving Mr. Banks as No.29 was the historical home of writer P. L. Travers.It is parallel to Radnor Walk and Flood Street.

The Temperance Billiard Hall at 131–141 King's Road, Chelsea, London, is a Grade II listed building with English Heritage.It was built around 1912–14 to a design by Thomas Retford Somerford for Temperance Billiards Halls Ltd., and became an antiques centre in the 1960s. It is still retail premises. It is now connected to the former Chelsea Garage in 15 Flood Street, which is also Grade II listed.

Nell Gwynn House is a ten-storey residential building in Sloane Avenue, Chelsea, London, designed in the Art Deco style by G. Kay Green. Completed in 1937, it stands next to the same architect's Sloane Avenue Mansions, built a few years earlier.

Hung On You was a London fashion boutique, run by the designer Michael Rainey, particularly known for flowery shirts and kipper ties in bold colours. Rainey's customers included the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Kinks and the actor Terence Stamp.The shop opened at 22 Cale Street, London, with a mural by Michael English. It later relocated to 430 King's Road, Chelsea. Regular customers included Sir Mark Palmer, and the models from his male modelling agency English Boy. Rainey sold the lease to the boutique in 1969 to Tommy Roberts and Trevor Myles, and it became Mr Freedom.His then wife, Jane Ormsby Gore, in a 2006 interview with the Victoria & Albert Museum, said: "Michael made the most gigantic mistake of leaving Cale Street and going onto the King's Road. He felt that it was happening on the King's Road, but it cost a lot of money to move, and people didn't know where we were. It became less successful then. Before it was slightly more slick, with a big jardinière mirrored thing in the middle of the shop. We had got two children by then, and we were seriously into soul seeking and going on fasts and meditating… We left London, sold everything, gave away everything, and went to live in Gozo. London times and everything were over."
