Newton is an unincorporated community in Jefferson Township, Newton County, in the U.S. state of Indiana.

The Kentland structure, also known as the Kentland crater or the Kentland disturbed area, is an impact structure located near the town of Kentland in Newton County, Indiana, United States.It was discovered about 1880 when two farmers began to quarry crushed rock there. The presence of shatter cones and deformed bedrock led geologists to conclude by the late 1960s that the Kentland structure is a deeply eroded impact structure, rather than volcanic in origin. Deformation at the site is so great that vertical contacts between normally horizontal rock formations of different ages are common. The structure itself is a circular dome, about 7.24 km (4.50 mi) in diameter, deeply eroded and buried in glacial debris. Its age is estimated to be less than 97 million years (Cretaceous or younger). The Shakopee dolomite at the center of the structure is about 450 million years old (Ordovician period) and is uplifted about 2,000 feet higher than the level of the same rock in the surrounding area. The entire disturbed area is about 13 km (8.1 mi) in diameter. John Weber and his associates presented fission track dating of apatite from this impact structure. Coesite and shatter cones are found in the uplift near its center. The impact structure is exposed to the surface, resulting in erosion. It is currently being worked as a quarry.

Grant Township is one of ten townships in Newton County, Indiana, United States. As of the 2020 census, its population was 1,100 and it contained 513 housing units.

South Newton High School is a multi-community high school consisting of grades 9-12 located in rural Newton County, between the incorporated towns of Kentland, Brook, and Goodland, Indiana. The Elementary and Middle School facilities are located adjacent to the high school.

Kentland Municipal Airport (IATA: KKT, FAA LID: 50I) is a public use airport located one nautical mile (2 km) southeast of the central business district of Kentland, in Newton County, Indiana, United States. It is owned by the Kentland Board of Aviation Commissioners. This airport was included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a general aviation facility.

McCairn-Turner House, also known as the Gilman-Turner House, is a historic home located at Goodland, Indiana. The original section was built about 1869, received an addition about 1875, and renovated in the Italianate style in 1886–1887. It is a two-story, frame dwelling sheathed in clapboard siding. A kitchen addition was constructed in 1908. It features a two-story, three sided projecting bay and one-story full length porch.: 5–6  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994, and was delisted in 2023.

Goodland is a town in Grant Township in Newton County, Indiana. The population was 1,043 at the 2010 census.

Goodland-Grant Township Public Library, also known as the Mitten Memorial Building, is a historic library building located at Goodland, Newton County, Indiana. It was built in 1931, and is a one-story, rectangular, Colonial Revival style steel frame building on a raised basement. It has hollow tile walls, is sheathed in limestone, and has a slate gable roof.: 5  It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The Newton County Courthouse is a historic courthouse located at Kentland, Newton County, Indiana, United States. The original Newton County was formed by statute on February 7, 1835, and was a roughly square area some 30 miles on a side, encompassing what is now the northern half of the county, the northern half of Jasper County, and a large section to the north. The northern border was cut back to the Kankakee River on February 1, 1836, with all land north of the Kankakee River going to Lake and Porter counties. The county was abolished and combined with Jasper County in 1839. On December 8, 1859, the county was recreated and the borders were redrawn to essentially their current state.The current Newton County Courthouse was built in 1906, and is a three-story, rectangular, Renaissance Revival style brick building with limestone trim. It has an architectural tile hipped roof. The front facade features round arched windows on the third floor, projecting entrance pavilion, and a pedimented parapet.: 5 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.

Jefferson Township is one of ten townships in Newton County, Indiana. As of the 2010 census, its population was 2,140 and it contained 964 housing units.

The Benton County Wind Farm (also called Goodland I) consists of 87 model sl/sle Gen4 GE 1.5 MW wind turbines near Earl Park, Indiana in northern Benton County, Indiana. The farm's nameplate capacity is 130.5 MW. The farm was developed by Orion Energy Group, LLC (Oakland, CA) and Vision Energy, LLC (Cincinnati, OH) beginning in 2003. It began commercial operation in April 2008. At the time of its construction, it was Indiana's only commercial-scale wind farm. Duke Energy purchases electricity from the wind farm and sells it to customers through its GoGreen program.In August 2006, Duke Energy Indiana finalized its agreement to buy the output of 54 of the wind farm's 87 wind turbines for 20 years. This was the first significant long-term wind power purchase agreement in Indiana. The remaining 33 wind turbines in the wind farm sell their electricity to Duke and Vectren.The owner of the project is Benton County Wind Farm LLC, which is owned by subsidiaries of Orion Energy Group LLC and other investors. The project is managed by Orion Energy Group LLC.In early 2009, the nearby Fowler Ridge Wind Farm was Indiana's second wind farm to open, and became Indiana's largest wind farm.Other wind farms developed by Orion and Vision include the Camp Grove Wind Farm and the Fowler Ridge Wind Farm.
