Mayfield North is a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. It is basically an industrial estate, which extends north to the south arm of the Hunter River, west to Tourle Street, and south to Industrial Drive. Originally the estate comprised CSR Chemicals, Titans, Koppers, and part of the BHP Steelworks (No2 Merchant Mill, Rod Mill, Limestone Kiln and Spares Yard). It has officially has population of zero.

Callaghan College is a large multi-campus government-funded co-educational comprehensive secondary day school, located in the north-western corridor of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. Established on 28 June 2000, the College operates across three campuses, with education for students in Year 7 to Year 10 delivered from both the Wallsend and Waratah campuses; and for students in Year 11 and Year 12 delivered from the Jesmond Senior campus. Before 2020, the Waratah campus operated as a specialist school for technology students. In 2018, across all three campuses, the College had an enrolment of approximately 2,500 students, of whom thirteen percent identified as Indigenous Australians and thirteen percent were from a language background other than English. Across all three campuses, the 2300 students are supported by approximately 300 staff. The College is run and administered by the New South Wales Department of Education. The College Principal is Ms Kylee Owen and each campus has a principal.

Newcastle Boys' High School was a government-funded single-sex selective high school, located in Waratah, a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. The school was active between 1929 and 1976, after which time it became a co-educational non-selective school.

Waratah is a north-western residential suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from Newcastle's central business district and bounded to the north by the Main North railway line. Waratah station was opened in 1858 and is served by NSW TrainLink's Hunter line.

Tighe's Hill is a north-western suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales and was named after A.A.P. Tighe, an early resident, who in 1843 bought the estate. It is primarily a residential area, though it also includes the current Tighes Hill TAFE campus and a commercial area.

St Philip's Christian College is a multi-campus independent non-denominational Christian co-educational early learning, primary and secondary day school, located in the Central Coast and Hunter regions of New South Wales, Australia. 2HD is an Australian radio station in New South Wales. Owned and operated as part of the Super Radio Network of stations, it currently broadcasts a news talk and classic hits format to Newcastle, New South Wales and the surrounding Hunter region. First broadcast on 27 January 1925, it was established by founder Harry Douglas - from which the station derives its name - and is based in studios in Sandgate alongside sister station New FM. 2HD is Australia's second oldest existing radio station, first going to air just hours after Sydney's 2UE.

Islington Public School is a government-funded co-educational primary school, located in Islington, in the inner city of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. The school was established in 1887 and was the site of an asbestos contamination on March 1, 2022, leading it to become temporarily closed until March 25, 2022, when it reopened again. As of 2022, there are 180 students enrolled.
