St Philip's Christian College is a multi-campus independent non-denominational Christian co-educational early learning, primary and secondary day school, located in the Central Coast and Hunter regions of New South Wales, Australia. There are 4,000 students across all campuses that are located in Cessnock, Gosford, Newcastle, Port Stephens, plus a campus in Waratah which houses the DALE (Dynamic Alternative Learning Environment) program for students with an autism spectrum disorder, or who struggle with their schooling (students are also able to access this program at the Cessnock and Gosford campuses). A Young Parents program is delivered from campuses in Waratah and Wyong.

Newcastle Boys' High School was a government-funded single-sex selective high school, located in Waratah, a suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. The school was active between 1929 and 1976, after which time it became a co-educational non-selective school.

Callaghan College is a large multi-campus government-funded co-educational comprehensive secondary day school, located in the north-western corridor of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. Established on 28 June 2000, the College operates across three campuses, with education for students in Year 7 to Year 10 delivered from both the Wallsend and Waratah campuses; and for students in Year 11 and Year 12 delivered from the Jesmond Senior campus. Before 2020, the Waratah campus operated as a specialist school for technology students. In 2018, across all three campuses, the College had an enrolment of approximately 2,500 students, of whom thirteen percent identified as Indigenous Australians and thirteen percent were from a language background other than English. Across all three campuses, the 2300 students are supported by approximately 300 staff. The College is run and administered by the New South Wales Department of Education. The College Principal is Ms Kylee Owen and each campus has a principal.

The ground is home to the Newcastle Knights (National Rugby League) and Newcastle Jets FC (A-League). Due to past sponsorship deals, the ground has been previously known as Marathon Stadium, EnergyAustralia Stadium, Ausgrid Stadium and Hunter Stadium. Mayfield is a north-western suburb of Newcastle, New South Wales, which takes its name from Ada May (born 1874) a daughter of the landowner there, John Scholey. Its boundaries are the Hunter River to the north, the Main Northern railway line to the south (Waratah station), the railway line to Newcastle Harbour to the east, and open ground to the west.
