North Melbourne is an inner suburb of Melbourne, Australia, 3 km north-west of Melbourne's Central Business District. Its local government area is the City of Melbourne. At the 2016 Census, North Melbourne had a population of 14,940.North Melbourne is bounded by the CityLink freeway to the west, Victoria Street to the south, O'Connell and Peel Streets to the east and Flemington Road to the north. Since July 2008 its local government area has been the City of Melbourne, when it took over the administration of parts of Kensington and North Melbourne that were previously under the City of Moonee Valley, resulting in an increase of approximately 4760 residents and almost 3000 workers (2006 Census).Formerly known as Hotham, it was essentially a working class area, with some middle class pockets, and was one of the first towns in Victoria to be granted Municipal status. Today it continues to undergo gentrification, noted for its Victorian architecture, cosmopolitan demographic, commercial and older industrial areas.

North Melbourne was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria from 1859 to 1927. The Electoral District of North Melbourne was defined as being bound by Victoria Street/Parade on the south, Nicholson Street on the east, the southern boundary of portion 90, parish of Jika Jika on the north and a line south from Mains Bridge (now Flemington Bridge) to the Victoria Street alignment by the 1858 Electoral Districts Act. This included the suburbs of Carlton, Parkville and North Melbourne. The district was abolished, along with several others, when the Electoral Districts Act 1926 was implemented in 1927.

The Division of Northern Melbourne was an Australian Electoral Division in the state of Victoria. It was located in the inner northern suburbs of Melbourne, and was named accordingly. It included parts of the suburbs of Carlton, North Melbourne and Fitzroy. At the redistribution of 13 July 1906, it was abolished and replaced by the Division of Batman. The division was held by one member, H. B. Higgins, who was Attorney General from 1904 to 1905. He did not contest Batman at the 1906 election, as he was appointed a Justice of the High Court of Australia in 1906.

St Aloysius College is a Roman Catholic, secondary day school, catering for girls from year 7 to 12 in North Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It was established by the Sisters of Mercy in 1000. The college was named after its patron saint - Aloysius Gonzaga. In 2020 the School announced that it would become co-ed in 2023, with the first classes of boys to commence that year in Year 7. The full transition to co-ed will be complete by 2028, as they move through the School, allowing for all current classes to be complete remaining girls only.The four houses of the college are McAuley (blue), Fallon (gold), Verdon (green) and Scully (red).

Arden Street Oval (also known as North Melbourne Cricket Ground) is a sports oval in North Melbourne, Victoria. It is currently the training base of the North Melbourne Football Club, an Australian rules football club, and up to the end of the 1985 season it was used as the team's home ground for Victorian Football League (VFL) matches.

Flemington Road is a major thoroughfare in the inner suburbs of North Melbourne and Parkville in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It runs for 2 km in a northwest–southeast direction, from the southern end of Mount Alexander Road, Flemington, to Haymarket roundabout and the northern end of Elizabeth Street, and provides a main connection between the northern arm of the CityLink tollway and Melbourne's CBD.

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) is a major children's hospital in Melbourne, Australia. As a major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria, the Royal Children's Hospital provides a full range of clinical services, tertiary care, as well as health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.The hospital is the designated statewide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation. Its campus partners are the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, which are based onsite at the hospital. The hospital is surrounded by the parkland of Royal Park, with views of trees and much natural light.

The Good Friday Appeal is an annual fundraising activity on behalf of the Royal Children's Hospital, in Melbourne, Australia. The event occurs on Good Friday every year. In 2022, the appeal raised over $22 million, setting a new record. More than $345 million has been raised for the hospital since the appeal began in 1931. Individuals and businesses, clubs, schools and country towns throughout the state conduct activities to raise money for the hospital. The appeal is a non-political, non-denominational organisation that exists solely to financially support The Royal Children's Hospital. For the first time in 2014, the telethon was staged within the 2,500-seat Plenary theatre at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC). The public were able to purchase tickets to join the live studio audience, with proceeds donated to the appeal. In 2016, the evening concert was marketed as a ticketed event via Ticketek. The state-of-the-art MCEC complex, which is entirely undercover, also features a vast foyer area and support rooms which allowed the appeal to expand activities such as the popular Kids Day Out program and host community groups which fundraise for the hospital.

The Murdoch Children's Research Institute (MCRI) is an Australian paediatric medical research institute located in Melbourne, Victoria, affiliated with the Royal Children's Hospital and the University of Melbourne. The institute has six research themes: cellular biology, clinical sciences, genetics, infection and immunity, population health, and data science.

Arden railway station is a railway station In Melbourne, constructed as part of the Metro Tunnel project. When opened, it will be served by the Sunbury, Pakenham and Cranbourne lines. Located in North Melbourne, below Laurens and Arden Streets, it was constructed using the cut-and-cover method. Major construction commenced in April 2018, and was completed in January 2024.The station sits in a major inner-city urban renewal area for Melbourne, and will anchor the new high-density suburb of Arden. A structure plan for the former industrial area was gazetted in 2022.

The electoral district of Melbourne is an electorate of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It currently includes the localities of Docklands, Carlton, Melbourne, East Melbourne, West Melbourne, North Melbourne, Parkville, Newmarket, Kensington and Flemington, and includes Melbourne University. The district has been in existence since 1856 (it was abolished in 1859 and reestablished in 1889). The electorate was won in 2014 for the first time by Greens candidate Ellen Sandell.

Macaulay railway station is located on the Upfield line in Victoria, Australia. It serves the inner northern Melbourne suburb of North Melbourne, and it opened on 1 December 1887 as Macaulay Road. It was renamed Macaulay on 1 May 1909.The station is located beside the Moonee Ponds Creek to its west, and surrounded mainly by factories and warehouses. Kensington, on the Craigieburn line, is only 400 m (1,300 ft) west of Macaulay, and is significantly closer to the residential area and handles a larger number of commuters. The station is also located at ground level, beneath the CityLink tollway, which is supported atop concrete columns that are located outside the platform fencing.
