Little Britain is an area in the town of New Windsor, Orange County, New York, United States, south of and adjacent to Stewart International Airport. The name spread to the surrounding region, which at that time was part of Ulster County.

Stewart State Forest is a state forest in Orange County, New York, United States. It is located West of Stewart International Airport and North of Rock Tavern. It comprises a mix of wetlands, fields and forest. It offers 22 miles (35 km) of gravel roads and 18 miles (29 km) of hiking trails. Activities include hiking, biking, horseback riding, hunting, cross country skiing, snowmobiling, bird watching and fishing. Wildlife includes white-tailed deer, coyotes, bobcats, wild turkeys, great blue herons and hawks.

The Thomas McDowell House is located on Lake Road in the Little Britain section of the Town of New Windsor in Orange County, New York, United States. It was built c. 1770 by McDowell, an early settler of the area, and was later rented out by his descendants to prominent local weaver James Alexander. In 2004 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of the last surviving homes built by the original Little Britain settlers, a mostly Irish group that had survived a difficult sea voyage to the New World, and the only one that remains mostly in its original form. Some later residents left behind reminders of the tastes of later eras.

Denniston–Steidle House also known as Pineview Farm and the Steidle Farm is a historic home located at New Windsor in Orange County, New York. It was built about 1875, with a rear ell added in 1915. It consists of a two-story, three-bay, Italianate style main block with a 1+1⁄2-story rear ell. The farmhouse is a rare example of non-reinforced lime-based concrete construction in the region; the ell is of terra cotta block construction. Also on the property are the contributing timber frame banked carriage house (c. 1875), terra cotta block wellhouse (c. 1915), and a frame outhouse (c. 1915).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Beaver Dam Lake is a census-designated place (CDP) in the towns of New Windsor, Blooming Grove, and Cornwall in Orange County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 2,609.The CDP is in eastern Orange County, bordered to the west by the village of Washingtonville and to the south by Salisbury Mills. The community surrounds Beaverdam Lake, which drains south to Moodna Creek at Salisbury Mills. Moodna Creek flows into the Hudson River between New Windsor and Cornwall-on-Hudson. New York State Route 94 forms the southern edge of the CDP. It leads northeast 6 miles (10 km) to New Windsor and southwest 10 miles (16 km) to Chester. Newburgh is 8 miles (13 km) to the northeast, and Middletown is 19 miles (31 km) to the west.

FedEx Express Flight 1406 was an American domestic cargo flight from Memphis International Airport, Memphis, Tennessee, to Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts, that suffered an in-flight cargo fire over New York on September 5, 1996. The three crew members and two passengers on board successfully evacuated after an emergency landing at Stewart International Airport in Newburgh, New York. After the evacuation, the DC-10 was consumed by fire. After an extensive investigation, the National Transportation Safety Board was unable to determine what caused the fire. Nevertheless, the Federal Aviation Administration made recommendations to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Stewart Air National Guard Base, located in Orange County, New York, is the base of the 105th Airlift Wing (105 AW), an Air Mobility Command unit of the New York Air National Guard and "host" wing for the installation. The airport also hosts extensive civilian facilities, known alternately as Newburgh-Stewart, Stewart International Airport or New York Stewart International. Stewart Airfield opened in 1934 at the direction of Douglas MacArthur as a training facility for the nearby United States Military Academy (West Point). The base is named in honor of a 19th-century Scottish-born sea captain, Lachlan Stewart, and his son, who donated the land it now occupies. It was built out significantly during World War II. In 1948 it transitioned to the newly formed United States Air Force to become the Stewart Air Force Base while also continuing its training mission with West Point. In 1958 it added a SAGE direction center, DC-02, controlling the Boston Air Defense Sector. Most operations at Stewart wound down in the 1960s. The base was deactivated in 1970 and taken over by New York State as a civilian airport. The current base opened in 1980 by agreement between the state and the ANG. The next year, it was the arrival airport for the freed American hostages from Iran.

Stewart International Airport, officially New York Stewart International Airport (IATA: SWF, ICAO: KSWF, FAA LID: SWF), is a public/military airport in Orange County, New York, United States. It is in the southern Hudson Valley, west of Newburgh, south of Kingston, and southwest of Poughkeepsie, approximately 60 miles (97 km) north of Manhattan, New York City. The airport is located within the towns of Newburgh and New Windsor. It is included in the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2017–2021, in which it is categorized as a non-hub primary commercial service facility.Developed in the 1930s as a military base to allow cadets at the nearby United States Military Academy at West Point to learn aviation, it has grown into a significant passenger airport for the mid-Hudson region and continues as a military airfield, housing the 105th Airlift Wing of the New York Air National Guard and Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 452 (VMGR-452) of the United States Marine Corps Reserve. The airport was designated as an emergency landing site for the Space Shuttle.After its closure as a U.S. Air Force base in the 1970s, an ambitious plan by Governor Nelson Rockefeller to expand and develop the airport led to a protracted struggle with local landowners that led to reforms in the state's eminent domain laws but no actual development of the land acquired. In 1981 the 52 American hostages held in Iran made their return to American soil at Stewart. In 2000 the airport became the first U.S. commercial airport privatized when United Kingdom-based National Express was awarded a 99-year lease on the airport. After postponing its plans to change the facility's name after considerable local opposition, it sold the rights to the airport seven years later; the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey board voted to acquire the remaining 93 years of the lease and later awarded AFCO AvPorts the contract to operate the facility. The Port Authority rebranded the airport as New York Stewart International Airport in 2018 to emphasize its proximity to New York City.

Salisbury Mills is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the towns of Blooming Grove and Cornwall in Orange County, New York, United States. As of the 2020 census, it had a population of 580.The CDP is in eastern Orange County and is bordered to the north by Beaver Dam Lake. Salisbury Mills is built along Moodna Creek, which flows east into the Hudson River between New Windsor and Cornwall-on-Hudson. The Moodna Viaduct, the longest actively used rail trestle in the eastern United States, crosses Moodna Creek at the eastern edge of the CDP. New York State Route 94 forms the northern edge of the CDP. It leads northeast 6 miles (10 km) to New Windsor and southwest 10 miles (16 km) to Chester. Beaverdam Lake-Salisbury Mills was a census-designated place (CDP) in Orange County, New York, United States. It encompassed a region in the corner of the towns of Blooming Grove, Cornwall, and New Windsor. As of the 2000 census, its population was 2,779. After the 2000 census, the area was counted as two separate CDPs: Beaver Dam Lake in the towns of Blooming Grove and New Windsor and Salisbury Mills in the towns of Blooming Grove and Cornwall. Beaverdam Lake is also the name of a lake next to the community. The area is part of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA Combined Statistical Area.

The Colden Family Cemetery (also known as Colden Cemetery) is a Registered Historic Place in the Town of Montgomery in Orange County, New York, United States. It is located off Maple Avenue south of NY 17K, surrounded by a small stone wall.It was established in the 1780s by the descendants of area resident Cadwallader Colden, one of the last colonial governors of New York. The ruins of the family home are at the junction of 17K and NY 747, approximately a mile (1.6 km) to the northeast. While Colden himself is buried another private cemetery in the Queens community of Flushing where he died, a tablet was erected in his memory at the entrance. Many of his progeny are here, along with some of the family's slaves and members of other families. The earliest grave is that of his last wife Elizabeth, who died in 1782. The most recent grave is that of Anna Colden Harris, who died in 1937.The cemetery was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Blooming Grove is a town in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 18,811 at the 2020 census. It is located in the central part of the county, southwest of Newburgh.
