Swinderby railway station

Swinderby is a village and civil parish in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The village is situated just north of the A46 road, 8 miles (13 km) south-west from Lincoln and 6 miles (10 km) north-east from Newark. Swinderby lies within a rural agricultural community and covers an area of 2,200 acres (9 km2). Village population is 773, reducing to 648 (including Morton Hall) at the 2011 census.

It is situated 8 miles (13 km) south-west from the City of Lincoln, and is centrally located between the nearby larger villages of Swinderby, Thorpe on the Hill, and Eagle Barnsdale. Morton Hall is served by Swinderby railway station, just outside the village to the west. The separate hamlet of Morton is 0.5 miles (0.8 km) to the south-east. HM Prison Morton Hall is in the village. It was originally the site of an RAF base, which was converted into a prison in 1985. The facility was converted into an immigration removal centre in 2011.

Tunman Wood is a local nature reserve with an area of over 53 ha (130 acres) located near Eagle Barnsdale, Lincolnshire. It is an area of ancient woodland and has existed since at least 1774. It was used by the Forestry Commission from the 1940s until it was purchased by Lincolnshire County Council, North Kesteven District Council and Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust from Lafarge Aggregates in February 2009.

North Scarle is a village and civil parish in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 640. The village is situated close to the River Trent, about 8 miles (13 km) south-west from the city and county town of Lincoln, and on the county boundary with Nottinghamshire. The parish church is dedicated to All Saints and is a Grade I listed building dating from the 12th century, although it was destroyed by fire in 1342 and rebuilt directly after. In 1898 it was extensively restored and a north aisle was built by Sir Ninian Comper.The 19th-century clergyman and Australian police commander Henry Inman was rector of All Saints for 36 years and is interred in the churchyard.Village amenities include a village hall, post office, heritage centre, The White Hart public house, a Methodist hall, a sports and social club and playing fields, and a Primary School. There is also a miniature railway.

Royal Air Force Swinderby or more simply RAF Swinderby is a former Royal Air Force station airfield opened in 1940, one of the last of the stations completed under the RAF's expansion plans started in the 1930s. It was built near the village of Swinderby, Lincolnshire just off the south east side of the A46 (the Fosse Way) between Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire and Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England. The station closed on 17 December 1993.
